Metos NPK The mobile soil nutrient laboratory
METOS®NPK is a completely new concept which integrates soil nutrient analyses into a single microchip. After the soil samplesare extracted in a traditional way from thefield the sample preparation is done right onthe field or office. The filtered sample solutionis simply injected into a capillary to which a high electric voltage is applied. Many of the solvedchemical compounds are electrically charged and thereforestarttomigrateintheelectricfield.Everymolecule type migrates with an individual speedthrough the liquid medium, according to its mol-ecule size and charge. The sample ingredients are separatingandreachadetectoroneafteranotheratdifferentmigrationtimesastheconcentrationofeachsamplecompoundcanbemeasuredindividually.Thistechnologyalsoworksforon-sitemeasurementsinfieldconditionsandcanbeoperatedbyusers without laboratory knowledge. The measurement data is related to GPScoordinatesandissentviatelecommunicationtoourweb-cloud(www.fiedclimate.com),where it is saved and can be accessedby several users.The possibility to transfer of the data to machine-readable formats is under development,allowingtheautomaticsite-specificvariable rateapplicationwithprecisionfarmmachinery(e.g.fertilizerspreaders,sprayeretc).

Senteksensorsutilizecapacitance-basedtechnologyto provide near continuous measurements withinthesoilprofile.Bycreatingahighfrequencyelectri-cal field around the sensor, extending through theaccess tube into the surrounding soil, the sensor detects the changes in dielectric constant, or per-mittivity,ofthesoilovertime.Athighfrequencythemeasurement is affected predominantly by watermolecules. The greater is the amount of water, the smaller is the frequency measured between the two brass rings of the sensor.
TheTriSCANsensorprovidesmeasurementsofbothsoil water and salinity. By employing a patented measurement technique the TriSCAN sensor is able to distinguish between soil water content and saltcontent. This information is then processed usingaSentekderivedmodel to calculate soil volumetricion content (VIC) separately from the VolumetricWater Content. The TriSCAN sensor is designed for fertilizerandsalinitymanagement inresearch,agri-cultureandenvironmentalapplications.
TheTriSCAN sensor is optimized foroneof agricul-ture’s most common soil textures of sands and sandy loams, and is currently not suitable for clays.
