Flexible Batteries – The Need
Flexible devices: Smart cards, Wearable Electronic, Flexible
displays, Medical and Cosmetic…

Flexible Battery Requirements
1. Thin pouch cells – Less than 1mm thickness
2. Rolled up, Twisted, Bent
3. High energy density
4. Reasonable Power density
5. Good cycle life
6. Wide operating temperatures
7. Good safety
8. Low cost
6
Flexible Battery Technology1. Anode, Cathode and Separator need to be flexible
2. One approach is to use polymer binders to fabricate
composite electrodes where conductive additives are
added to enhance their conductivity
3. Electrode materials can be printed or coated onto
flexible substrates
4. Cells are assembled into flexible pouch packaging to
maintain bendability
5. Others approaches include the filtering of electrode
suspension through filters to form free-standing films,
or use flexible matrix to hold electrode materials

Excellatron
Excellatron has been engaged in the development of production
technology for TFB (thin film batteries). Rechargeable lithium and
lithium-ion thin film solid-state battery technology was originally
developed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Thin Flexible Profile - Excellatron has developed a low temperature deposition
process that enables us to use flexible, polymer foil as the substrate. This
technology largely reduces the production cost of thin film batteries and makes
flexible batteries a reality.
