OVERVIEW
ALE has always been distinguished by its engineering capabilities. We’re recognised as a world leader in equipment and solution development, and from the opening of our Research and Development (R&D) facility, our innovative product design has dominated industry news and redefined the boundaries of heavylifting capability in a global market.
Our fleet of innovative equipment is designed using industry experts and includes a fleet of lightweight service cranes suitable for lifting equipment and modules in compact spaces. This Lightweight Service Crane solution is added to the existing solutions package, including vent-stack removal, flare tip exchange, drill string compensator replacement and temporary lifting installations.

DESIGN
Through careful analysis of the current market and early engagement with clients, ALE identified the need for a lightweight crane solution that could be certified for heavy offshore, subsea and onshore operations.
ALE wanted to design a crane that could offer standardised lifting solutions to work on different, complex onshore as well as offshore assets, such as jacketed platforms, semi-submersibles and FPSOs. A lightweight solution was required that could be easily built by hand in areas which are difficult to reach.
ALE first conceived the idea of a new lightweight crane in 2015 and this developed into the Lightweight Service Crane, which was launched in 2016.

OVERVIEW OF KEY FEATURES
99
The aluminium, lightweight crane can be carried and assembled by hand, making it an extremely quick and easy solution and providing easy-access at an economical rate. The maximum lifting capacity goes up to 6t. This crane can be installed anywhere without the requirement for an assembly crane.
The crane is certified according to DNV GL and EN Norm and, from its modular design, can be assembled to suit every project’s specific requirement.

The Lightweight Service Crane is optimised to:
• Lift heavy units on high-rise buildings
• Carry out stick building onsite of high rise structures
• Perform the handling of heavy equipment in and onto ships
• Replace flare towers on oil rigs
• Execute indoor deployments where (OH) cranes are unavailable
• Provide alternative/additional lifting capacity on offshore platforms
• Splash zone lifting to unlimited depth
• Repairs, installation and deinstallation of cranes, helidecks and aircraft warning lights
• Offshore repair and installation of flare booms and vent stacks
• Installations and de-installations of components, such as living quarters, process modules, lifeboat stations, temporary and permanent generators
• Can be utilised in decommissioning works
• Assembly and disassembly of tower cranes
• Replacement of the ‘cut’ from overhead cranes operating on nuclear sites
• Onshore installation of building maintenance units (BMUs)

DESIGN BENEFITS
RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE The Lightweight Service Crane has been designed so it is extremely mobile, and easy to transport to and deploy in different destinations.
LIGHTWEIGHTWe have designed this lifting solution to be lightweight so they can be manually constructed in restricted areas. The equipment can be assembled manually for lifts up to 6t. A hand-assembled derrick can be used to build a gantry for lifts up to 150t.
MODULARThe standardised modular equipment keeps our projects modular as well.
UNLIMITED CAPACITYThe equipment can be constructed with any capacity.
VERSATILITYAdditional lightweight equipment, like skidding systems, can be added to create an even more versatile solution.

OPERATIONAL BENEFITS
COMPLETE SOLUTIONThe crane is adaptable to the project’s specific demands. As a result, it can offer the complete lifting solution.
LOW OPERATIONAL COSTSALE eliminates the timely and costly exercise of using large cranes by bringing a dedicated and engineered lifting solution on the spot.
TIME EFFICIENTALE can provide the lifting capacity to ensure platform operations can continue without interruptions and to assist with the work on the crane.
USED IN REMOTE LOCATIONSAs the equipment is lightweight, it can be easily built in remote locations.
INCREASED SAFETYThe lifting solution has been fitted with the latest safety features, including a load moment indicator and the ability to give real-time load readings, boom angle measurements and the optional man-riding capabilities.

SAFETY FEATURES, THE FUTURE & ENGINEERING
SAFETY FEATURESThe Lightweight Service Crane has been designed in accordance with DNV GL, EU Norm and the most stringent safety regulations. To gain third party approvals, every stage was checked, witnessed and approved by globally recognised independent surveyors. Using this strict criteria ensures the very highest standards of design and fabrication.
The equipment has been designed with safety in mind, with additional features installed to increase safety and accuracy in measurements and operations.
THE FUTUREALE continues to focus on improving current equipment and creating new solutions for the industry. Having a dedicated development facility gives our highly skilled engineers a platform from which to push the boundaries of design. With this expertise and a close working relationship with our clients, we have gained a comprehensive understanding of the market to develop equipment to meet both current and future demand. ALE is committed to proactively meeting the needs of our clients. Our foundations are not built as an equipment rental company, we actively develop solutions to challenges faced by clients and solve them through innovation.
ALE will be expanding our capabilities to create a whole fleet of handling systems and solutions that can also be used for our onshore clients and on other ALE projects. There is also the potential to use ATEX versions of the lightweight lifting solutions.

Lifting of a building maintenance unit, UK
OVERVIEW: ALE has successfully lifted a building maintenance unit (BMU) onto a 124m-high roof in London, UK. This is the first time the Lightweight Service Crane has been utilised.
SERVICES REQUIRED: The BMU was comprised of components, weighing between 1t – 3.5t.
ALE was tasked with lifting the BMU components from street level to the top of a high-rise building, located in a congested and busy area. As a large crawler crane would have required a road closure, ALE’s Lightweight Service Crane was the only possible solution that avoided disruptions.
All of the Lightweight Service Crane’s components were mobilised with a small truck, onto the roof using the service lift and one staircase.
The crane was configured in its largest configuration on the roof, with a back mast of 7.8m and boom length of 11.2m.
It took just one day for the crane to lift all of the eight BMU components onto the rooftop.
