Life and Death RowDocumentary
FORMAT• Was part of a series on BBC THREE. • Limited amount of episodes• The show is not a continuing theme as the “characters” the inmates
change every time, as the show changes narrative each episode• There are no presenters in the show, there is only the same narration used
to illustrate the story• Narrative around crime
PURPOSE• Their purpose was to inform the audience the importance of Life and Death row in
the United States• They wanted to also inform and educate the audience by showcasing the
environment and back stories of the inmates on the show.• The series could come across as very interesting as they go in detail with every sector
in the crime
PLATFORM• Life at Death row was accessible by live TV on BBC Three, Now BBC Three is no
longer available, you could also access it from Iplayer etc.• Also it could be viewed on many devices such as TV, Phones, Laptops, Tablets.
TYPES/ SUB-GENES OF DOCUMENTARY• The sub-genres that come under Life and Death Row is:• Crime/ Society• Maybe a bit of history as it consists of events that happened years before
Documentary techniques used, and whether it is biased / unbiased• A documentary technique used frequently is interviews, this helps the target
audience stay connected, it also gives us a better understanding and back story of the prisoners
• It also illustrates the reality of the show as everything used in the documentary is true, as the documentary follows individuals lifes in prison up until to their execution or sentence
• In my opinion I feel that the documentary is unbiased to an extent as the government follow the rules to keep criminals in prison to serve time or extreme measure to face execution. On the other hand other individuals nay find facing execution is a bit too much, in my opinion I do think the target audience will be biased and un biased on some terms in the documentary
