LGI-‐100  Distributed  Temperature  and  Strain  Sensing  System

1. What  is  LGI-‐100?  LGI-‐100  is  a  fiber  optic  sensing  system  for  real-‐time  distributed  temperature  and  strain  sensing.    The  system  consists  of  a  sensing  fiber  that  has  a  large  number  of  serial  sensing  elements  and  an  interrogation  instrument  for  accurate  demodulation  of  the  signals  from  each  of  these  sensors.    These  sensing  elements  are  highly  sensitive  to  temperature  and  strain,  and  can  operate  reliably  with  excellent  long-‐term  stability  even  under  harsh  environments  including  high  temperatures.    LGI-‐100  is  the  only  product  in  the  market  today  that  offers  fast  and  long  range  distributed  temperature  and  strain  sensing.    The  combined  advantages  of  2s  speed,  10km  sensing  distance,  1,000  sensor  multiplexing  capacity  and  low  cost  make  LGI-‐100  a  unique  solution  for  applications  where  high  performance  and  cost  effectiveness  are  important  at  the  same  time.

 2. How  does  it  work?

A  near  infrared  laser  in  the  LGI-‐100  interrogator  launches  an  optical  pulse  in  the  sensing  fiber.    As  the  laser  propagates  down  the  fiber,  it  is  partially  reflected  by  each  of  the  serial  sensors.    These  reflections  then  travel  along  the  same  fiber  back  to  the  interrogator  and  are  opto-‐electronically  detected  and  analyzed.    An  advanced  signal  processing  algorithm  is  applied  to  demodulate  these  signals  to  accurately  determine  the  temperature  or  strain  at  each  of  these  sensor  location  in  real  time.

3. Typical  applications  LGI-‐100  is  featured  with  a  set  of  intrinsic  advantages  including  long  range  distributed  sensing  with  fast  response,  flexible  sensor  spacing,  excellent  long  term  stability,  harsh  environment  capability  and  low  cost.    These  superior  characteristics  make  this  product  a  perfect  choice  for  a  wide  range  of  engineering  applications,  which  may  include  but  are  not  limited  to        • Structural  health  monitoring  for  dams,  tunnels,  bridges,  highways,  high-‐

speed  railroads,  etc.  • Oil/gas  well  integrity  real  time  assessment    • Fire  detection
