Worksheet is a grid made up of columns and rows. The rectangle, or
box, created when a column and row intersect is called a cell. A cell
is identified by its location that is, the column letter and row number.

Rows and Columns
There are 256 columns and 65,536 rows available in a worksheet. Columns
are labeled using letters of the alphabet. Starting with letter A.
After Column Z, the column letters are labeled AA, AB, AC, AD, etc. After
AZ, the columns start again with BA, BB, BC, BD, to BZ. The last column ina worksheet is column IV.
Rows are numbered from 1 to 65,536, starting with the number 1 at the top
of the worksheet.

The Active Cell
The active cell is the cell into which information orformulas will be entered when you begin to type. A
selection border around the cell identifies it as the
active cell.

The small square inthe corner of theactive cell is calledthe Fill Handle andits used to copy thecontents of the active
cell to other cells.

Sheet Tabs A workbook can contain as many worksheets as the computers
memory will allow. A sheet tab is used to identify each worksheet in
the workbook. The tab of the active sheet appears to be joined to the
worksheet displayed in the window.
By default, a new workbook file starts with 3 sheets tabs, and you
can increase or decrease the number of sheets in a workbook. When
a workbook contains more than six worksheets, not all of these tabscan be displayed on the bar, so the Tab scrolling buttons are used to
display these sheet tabs. To select another worksheet, click the
appropriate sheet tab. If necessary, use the Tab scrolling buttons to
display the sheet tab before clicking it.

Renaming A Worksheet
When a workbook contains worksheet names such as Sheet1,Sheet2, etc., it can be difficult to identify the information contained ineach worksheet. To make the individual worksheets easier to workwith, you should rename sheet tabs to describe the contents of eachworksheet.

as you began typing, this name will be deleted and
replaced with the information you are typing.
