Thank you for your support and continued business.

Although we were hoping to emerge from the 2010 Favorites balloting with an exciting new slogan for this area, once again we’ve come up a little short.“We’re here because we’re not all there,” is the winner this year, admittedly a step up from “Where men are men and women are, too,” the winner from a few years back. Somehow we don’t see the Lake County Marketing Action Committee jumping on the bandwagon for either of these slogans, so perhaps we should look at some of the other categories instead. In many cases, the same winners are selected year after year. The Mineral Belt Trail always comes in first in several categories, the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum is always the favorite museum and Boom Days is always the favorite local event. At some point we may have to place these perpetual winners into a hall of fame. This year might be the first time that we have a four-way tie. It is the category of favorite public department with which to do business. The county clerk’s office had a lock on this one for a number of years, but this year there were four different winners. We like the fact that a large number of people are being honored.

It also appeared this year that the voting was done more independently than in past years. In other words, it didn’t seem as if efforts were made to stuff the ballot box in favor of a particular business or individual. We should point out that the rules don’t prohibit this. As long as all the ballots are original ones from the paper, we have no real way of knowing how many times a person voted, but sometimes it becomes obvious when we’re counting the votes. As in the past, we have runners-up in some categories. This simply means someone or something came within two votes of the actual winner. We are always interested in suggestions for new categories for the Favorites ballot in coming years and perhaps a new approach to this publication. Feel free to share your ideas at [email protected] to all of the businesses, organizations and individuals who are being honored this year. Your positive efforts in this community are clearly worth recognizing.

Once again we at Hope Christian Fellowship are honored and humbled to be nominated as Lake County’s Favorite Place of

Worship. Leadville is surrounded by beauty. Everywhere we turn we see evidence of a matchless Creator. May that evidence

stir our hearts to dig deeper into the reality of a God who loves and cares for the creatures He has made. If we are diligent in our digging, it is possible we will find a treasure that has value unmatched by any possessions, a right relationship with God.

We at HCF are committed to uncovering that treasure. Come join us in the search.
