Term 3 -- Week 6
What another exciting week of learning and engagement at LCCS! This week our Kindy Gym and Story Time concluded which means next week marks the beginning of Kindergarten Transition Days. All the pre-schoolers are super excited and we look forward to seeing many familiar and new faces and their families at our Kindergarten Open Day 2020 next Monday 2nd September at 9am.
Our students have all been very busy preparing weird, wacky and wonderful creations for the annual show this weekend. There is a very realistic wild pig from Year 3, fantastic cakes from Year 9 and 10 and some colourful bottle birds from Year 2 just to name a few. Make sure you go and check out the school display at the show and enjoy this great event.
This week also marks the 30 Year Anniversary of the LAP (Lachlan Access Program) which our senior students use to complete their HSC. Without this valuable program access to subjects and resources would be limited so to celebrate all the achievements over the years a film is being created to showcase the LAP program and all the changes over 30 years. Some staff and students were lucky enough to be interviewed for this film and we can’t wait to see them in the final product when it is released in November.
Can we also remind ALL parents, carers and visitors to the school that between the hours of 9am and 3pm you MUST enter via the front office and ask to see your child or a teachers during school hours. This is a safety issue as we need to ensure that strangers are not in our school and that we know who is on school grounds in the event of an emergency. Please do not walk into the playground to deliver lunch or give your child something. With the exception of drop off at 9am and pick up at 3pm – where you are welcome to wait in school and speak to a teacher if need be – you need a visitor pass or staff escort to be on school grounds.
Lastly we would like to say a big thank you to all our wonderful support staff in the school as part of SAS Recognitions week. Without the likes of our wonderful office ladies, school administrative manager, library
assistant, food assistant, science assistant, general assistant, ag assistant, Aboriginal Education Officer and School learning and Support Officers our school would not be able to run as these people complete all the important jobs behind the scenes and support all students and staff in the classroom. They really are the unsung heroes of our school and we hope they enjoyed the appreciation morning tea we provided for them on Wednesday.

Woolworths Discovery Garden Woolworths will be launching Woolworths Discovery Garden in September, a new collectable designed to give Australians of all ages the opportunity to grow their very own fresh food. If people shop at Woolworths and don’t wish to collect the new garden collectable please donate them to school. Mr Dean and Miss Ireland will use them for the Primary Garden and Ag Plot.
Lids4Kids
LCCS are teaming up with Craig Toole to collect bottle lids to recycle into prosthetic limbs for disabled children using 3D printing. The idea comes from Envision Hands, a non-for-profit organisation based at Wheelers Hill in Victoria, which shreds low and high density (Number 2 and 4) bottle lids and turns them into new prosthetic limbs using 3D printing. The prosthetic limbs are distributed to the victims of landmines in countries that lack the medical and technical facilities to enable the youngest victims of conflict to have a second chance.
If you can contribute from home please collect clean lids from your water, soft drink, juice or milk bottles and send them in with your children. Any support will be greatly appreciated. Mrs Roschelle O’Connor Instructional Leader

Growing Snow Peas in Kindergarten. In the last week of term 1, Kindergarten sowed snow peas in the school garden as a conclusion to the Livings Things unit they had been learning. They watched them grow over term 2, making sure the plants had enough water and sunlight. The plants grew and grew. Towards the end of term two, Kindergarten noticed flowers on their snow pea plants and hoped that soon there would be peas to eat. After the holidays Kindergarten were very excited to see peas on the plants. They all picked some and tasted them. Some children really enjoyed eating them and others were happy to give their snow peas to someone else! Ask your child to show you the snow peas next time you’re in the school grounds. Pick some for dinner!
