NASHVILLE: 30 Rock starTracy Morgan has apologisedfor his homophobic rant dur-ing a comedy routine at aNashville show, duringwhich he said homosexualsshould stop whining about be-ing bullied.

‘‘I want to apologise to myfans and the gay and lesbiancommunity for my choice ofwords at my recent stand-upact in Nashville,’’ Morgansaid in a statement, accordingto The Hollywood Reporter.

‘‘While I am an equal oppor-tunity jokester, and myfriends know what is in myheart, even in a comedy clubthis clearly went too far andwas not funny in any con-text,’’ the statement added.

During a June 3 perform-ance at Tennessee’s RymanAuditorium, Morgan said be-ing ‘‘gay was something kidslearn from the media and pro-gramming’’ and that ‘‘gaysneeded to quit being pussiesand not be whining aboutsomething as insignificant as

The routine is just now be-ing publicised due to the dis-covery of a Facebook post de-tailing Morgan’s comments,‘‘Why I No Longer Like TracyMorgan — A Must Read’’written and posted onFacebook by an audiencemember, Kevin Rogers.

Morgan has previouslylanded in hot water for hismaterial, including callingformer Alaska governorSarah Palin ‘‘good mastur-bation material’’.

LOS ANGELES: Aussie actorRussell Crowe has apologised fora Twitter tirade against circum-cision in which he called thepractice ‘‘barbaric and stupid’’.

‘‘Circumcision is barbaric andstupid. Who are you to correctnature? Is it real that GOD re-quires a donation of foreskin?Babies are perfect,’’ Crowewrote on Thursday, questioningthe Old Testament mandate forthe practice on Jewish males.

Crowe’s comments were partof an online conversation withhis friend, Inglourious Basterdsactor Eli Roth – who is Jewish –but the statement quickly

ignited a firestorm,with media outletsreporting the com-ments as possiblyanti-Semitic.

promptly deleted the messageand apologised.

‘‘I have a deep and abidinglove for all people of all national-ities, I’m very sorry that I havesaid things on here that havecaused distress,’’ the NewZealander wrote to his Twitterfollowers. ‘‘My personal beliefsaside, I realise that some will in-terpret this debate as me mock-

ing the rituals and traditions ofothers. I am very sorry.’’

Roth said the anti-Semiticclaim was out of line.

‘‘I am deeply, deeply disturbedat the media’s portrayal of Rus-sell Crowe as an anti-Semite formaking a joke to me on Twitter,’’Roth said in a statement.

‘‘Russell and I are greatfriends, and often tease each oth-er publicly, as you can see frommy response . . . Not one personfrom any media outlet contactedme to ask if it was a joke or notbefore running their viciousstories, which is indicative of amuch more serious problem.’’
