Kuta Weekly News Corner27 Jun - 3 Jul 2013 (342)
G'day again punters and welcome to the weekly for issue 342. Seems like only a few
weeks ago we did our first week in full colour and after reviewing when that was I'm
convinced the old adage that “time flies” is true. We can only thank our sponsors for
the paper getting out each week and do trust that all our readers get in and support
these businesses while here on holidays. On a separate achievement by the paper,
we have now reached 800 likes on our Facebook page which is a fantastic milestone
for our business and all the sponsors. I'd like to thank all the readers that see and
share the paper each week with their friends and family on Facebook. Let's get the
likes up to a 1000 now..
Moving on the week just gone saw the change in the equinox, which means we are now on our way back to the wet season as half
the dry has passed. It also saw the “super moon” which is when the moon passes as close as it ever does to the earth each year, and I
believe there were a few large full moon party's to celebrate that on the island. Great stuff.
The AFL footy wasn't too bad last weekend with I'd say the game of the round going to the Brisbane Lions with a 52 point come
back against Geelong. What a great game to watch when the Lions staged one of the best I have ever seen comebacks in the history
of the game, upsetting premiership fancies Geelong at the Gabba. The Lions trailed by 52 points late in the third term, before
whacking on 10 of the last 11 goals of the match to snatch what seemed an almost impossible victory just 30 minutes earlier.
I think everyone would have to agree that a close game is a good spectator game and while sitting with “Russell the Love Muscle”
we sank a few green ones and ended up cheering for the under dogs. I don't think many would have tipped the Lions but hey, that's
how it goes sometimes.
The past week has also seen one of the biggest ever infrastructure undertaking on the island almost completed, being the toll road
project from the airport and what can I say other than wow. I was sitting with old mate enjoying a few more greeny's and was told
by him that within 48 hours they will make a massive roundabout to integrate the bypass and the toll way from the airport and that
when I ride home tonight I will probably see it almost done. With that I've disagreed as in Bali things work on Bali time and after a
few more cold green ones I've got it in my head that I will take special care to slow down and look while heading home, which I did
and as I thought nothing had been started or remotely looked like starting.
The very next day I have jumped on the trusty scooter to go about my day and on the way in I notice the traffic flowing that little bit
easier, and when I got to the end of the runway on the bypass I couldn't believe it as there was an almost complete roundabout.
These people never cease to amaze me when they really want to get something done quick they seriously make it happen. On the
drive home the next day, and within 48 hours, there is now a roundabout fully functioning with the landscape gardening company
finishing off the planting of advanced palms and shrubs to make it look about as good, if not better than, anything you would see in
the world.
I take my hat off to the powers that be on the island for making the
underpass and the toll road happen in such a timely professional
manner and can only look forward to seeing the new airport when
it is done. The fact that I said to “Boof Head” that I'll eat my hat if
there is a completed roundabout in 48 hours has no bearing on this
editorial and shall never be discussed again. Smart a@%#rse….
Ok folks that's about the bottom of the page so I will bid you
farewell for another week and trust that the most of you stay safe,
happy, healthy and always remember, Faith consists in believing
when it is beyond the power of reason to believe.
Enjoy your week,
ALIASJ………

Stop (Building) in the Name of the LawVillas in Jembrana Being I s s u e d P e r m i t s a n d L i c e n s e s f o r N o n -C o n f o r m i n g Construction
The surge in villas being built in the Bali regency of Jembrana has brought attention to bear on the legality of the permits held by these structures.
A s r e p o r t e d b y Beritabali.com, many of the newly built villas clearly violate minimum setback rules from the shoreline but somehow manage to hold a full set of permits and building licenses. This anomaly is fueling suspicion of official collusion and corruption in the issuance of building and site permits.
S e v e r a l o f t h e “suspicious” villas are located in t he v i l l age o f Pe rancak , Jembrana.
One, named “Villa 33” is still under construction. This particular villa has raised protests because its distance from the shoreline is less than 50 meters while the minimum legal setback from the shoreline for all areas in Bali is 100 meters.
And, despite what is an obvious violation of building and
zoning codes, “Villa 33” appears to have a complete set of permits and licenses.
A member of commission
C of the Jembrana House of R e p r e s e n t a t i v e s ( D P R D -Jembrana), Putu Kamawijaya, said, that he deeply regretted such flagrant disregard for the law could occur, especially when the rules are so clear.
He was also concerned that construction is being allowed to continue on the construction of a building that violates the law, with local officials choosing to close their eyes.
“This is not happening only in Perancak, but in many other places. Violations occur, but no one takes action,” complained Putu Kamawijaya.
He said that permits have been issued points to official collusion to break the law.
Kamawijaya said any building being buil t in violation of the law requires the relevant authority must have the courage to take corrective action.
H e c a l l e d o n authorities to move against the illegal villas, regardless of who owns or back the subject projects.
Meanwhile, the head of the local enforcement office for Jembrana, Putu Widarta, said that his authority was only to check
several documents that must be held by the villa project.
After he surveyed the new villas in Perancak, he said all held the complete set of licenses, including principle permits and building permits. “So everything is OK,” insisted Widarta.
The Provincial Zoning Law of Bali (RTRWP 2009) stipulates that any official issue a building permit that does not conform to the zoning law is subject to 5 years imprisonment.

W o r l d - W i d e Protest Mount Against Bal i 's I l l e g a l Tu r t l e Trade
T h e environmental activist group ProFauna has d e l i v e r e d a n international online pe t i t i on to Ba l i ' s governor demanding he take steps to end the illegal trade of turtles and turtle eggs in Bali.
The non-governmental agency's Bali coordinator, Jatmiko Wiwoho, told The Jakarta Post: “The petition shows that the international community is now concerned about the illegal turtle trade in Bali, which has increased
again,” T h e p e t i t i o n
orchestrated by ProFauna and SOS Sea Turtle was handed to the governor at his office. Promulgated on the Internet, 25,000 signatures from around the world signed on to urge quick action by the governor to
stop the turtle trade.
Jatmiko added: “We hope the Bali governor can take more serious, concrete and thorough action to put an end to the illegal turtle trade.”
Jatmiko said the ongoing trade in turtles is tainting the image of Bali and may eventually affect the island's main business of tourism. The
Jakarta Post report hinted that if the government fails to heed calls to stop the turtle trade, calls to boycott tourism as occurred in 2000 might be repeated.

Indones ia 's Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Mari Elka P a n g e s t u , h a s d e c l a r e d t h a t domestic and international tourism targets will not be revised following dramatic increases of between 22%-44% in fuel prices.
S p e a k i n g a t t h e opening of a cultural festival in Jakar ta on Wednesday, Pangestu said, “There will be
no correction in tourism targets because all impacts and implications have been take into consideration.”
Indonesia continues to target 9 million foreign tourist v i s i t s f o r a l l o f 2013 . Meanwhile, the government is holding firm on its expectation
t h a t 2 5 0 domestic tourist trips will be undertaken in the current year, a number the Ministry of Tourism thinks will increase to 400 million trips by 2022.
The Min is ter, quoted in The Bali Post, said she anticipated that the tourism industry would find ways to be more efficient in its use
of energy, such as occurred after the last increase in fuel costs. The higher energy cost is expected by the Minister to give new impetus to green hotel and green environment programs.

BALI LOCATION TO SUIT EVERYONE
Sanur is a town on the east coast of South Bali.
Sanur is Bali's oldest upscale resort area and is a mature beach-side town. Despite the abundance of restaurants and
accommodation, it has a quiet and relaxed feel to it. In general terms, it is more expensive than Kuta but cheaper than Sem inyak . Sanu r tends to appeal most to middle-aged and older families, especially Europeans.
T h e S a n u r area is sandwiched between the main Jalan Ngurah Rai bypass and the beach. One main route called J a l a n D a n a u Tamblingan runs north to south through the
town and it is easy to orient yourself with reference to this road.
Sanur (Indonesian:Pantai Sanur, pronounced sah-noor) is a coastal stretch of beach of Denpasar city of southeast Bali,
about 30 minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, which has grown into a little town in its own right. a 5.1 ki lometers of the Sanur 's coastline from Matahari Terbit Beach to Mertasari Beach has been ready reclaimed in 2008.
The northern part of Sanur beach was used as the landing site for the Dutch invasion troops during the Dutch intervention in Bali (1906). During World War II, Sanur was again the entry point through which the Japanese forces landed to occupy the island of Bali.
Today Sanur contains a number of hotel resorts such as the Medina and Bali Hyatt (not to be confused with the Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua). Sanur is also home to a growing number of popular villa resorts, such as The Aleesha Villas.

Hawk clears Wimbledon for record crowdsRecord crowds lined up for day one o f the 2013 W i m b l e d o n t e n n i s championships on Monday as action got underway early on Centre Court wi th pigeonscarer, Rufus the hawk, clearing away pesky bird life and forecasts for a dry day.
With his own Twit ter account and Facebook page, Rufus has become one of Britain's best-known birds, deployed from 5 a.m. daily to clear pigeons roosting at the All England Club at Wimbledon that hosts the world's oldest tennis tournament.
This year, his handlers Anna and Imogen Davis, are keeping close tabs on Rufus who was stolen from their car overnight last year and was missing for three days before being found, abandoned in his transportation cage, on Wimbledon Common.
Anna Dav i s , f r om the company Avian Control Systems, said she suggested using hawks to clear the courts of pigeons about 14 years ago while at Wimbledon as a spectator and has been coming every morning of the two weeks championship ever since.
"With Rufus and the pigeons it ends up being fight or flight and the pigeons usually opt for flight," as the
grounds keepers prepared Centre Court for Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, and Andy Murray later in the day.
By 10 a.m. Rufus is off duty and the courts cleared for the arrival of tennis fans, thousands of whom line up outside the ground, even camping overnight, for a chance to
see their idols.Wimbledon is one of the few
major British sporting events where people can still buy premium tickets on the day, if they are prepared to spend up to 24 hours in a line, known as The Queue, that has become as much a tradition at Wimbledon as strawberries and cream... and rain.
Every day, several thousand tickets are sold at 20 pounds ($31) each for unreserved seating and standing room on courts 3-19 while those at the front of the line get the 1,500 tickets available for the top three courts - Centre, One, and Two.
Over the years, The Queue
has transformed to epitomize the British obsession for orderly lines, with strict rules ensuring fairness, no queue jumping, and civility, and a list of websites and Twitter accounts giving tips on how to line up.
"You can't really predict or control the numbers but this really shows the popularity of tennis,"
Friend said.Tennis fans in The Queue
said the wait could be almost as fun at the tournament that dates back to 1877.
Judy Bourne, a retiree from Cheltenham about 84 miles north west of London, has camped out at Wimbledon for 34 years and ended up being 85th in the line this year, ensuring she got Court One ticket to see her favourite, RafaNadal.
"I just love the wait. You get to know people and I have made some good friends over the years," she told Reuters.
Japanese honeymooners Takahiro and SayakoIkawa, both 32, from Osaka, lined up for two days to get into Wimbledon, coming 36th and 37th in the line and getting Centre Court tickets.
"It was a really English queue. Everyone was very nice and polite," said the couple, taking photos of themselves holding their tickets inside the gates.
A US woman has fought back against an armed carjacker, deliberately running her vehicle off the road and into a pole and then running him down as he fled.
Dorothy Baker-Flugence had just left a shopping centre in Baytown with her children aged two and five when a man armed with a knife jumped into her car.
The woman ran her van off the road to try to disorient the attacker.
H e r h u s b a n d C h a r l e s Flugence told Eyewitness News: "The guy pulled a knife on her. He had a knife on my son."
Mr Flugence said his wife told him she struggled with the attacker,
sounded the horn and somehow called 911 while getting the knife.
"She got the knife. She got a cut that goes across her chest. She grabbed the knife and he bit her hand," he said.
Mrs Baker Flugence said the attacker was not wearing a seatbelt and she thought if she hit the pole he might go through the windscreen.
"You can do something to make sure that he doesn't hurt your kids," she said. Dorothy Baker-Flugence said. "That's all I was thinking of really, was just to get him away from my kids.
with kids," she said. "I told him he messed with the wrong witch."
Baytown police spokesman Lt. Eric Freed said that Mrs Baker Flugence hit the attacker during the incident.
"She got into a struggle with the man while trying to protect her children," Lieutenant Freed said.
"She actually overpowered him. At some point in time, he jumped from the vehicle and was run over by the vehicle."
Mrs Baker-Flugence said that while she intentionally ran him down she was only trying to stop him fleeing.

As a foreigner, there is a number of ways that can lead to you owning your dream property in Bali.
The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model.Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name.
RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI)This is the right of use over
state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement.
Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian individual or entity.
Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc.
NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK
This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner.
Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee.
The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

Governor sparks firestorm with Vaseline jabM a i n e ' s R e p u b l i c a n Governor, Paul LePage, touched off a round of criticism when he made a vulgar remark about a Democratic state senator.
LePage said during a television interview that Senator Troy Jackson, with whom he has sparred recently over budget issues, "claims to be for the people, but he's the first one to give it to the people without providing Vaseline."
The remarks followed LePage 's p romise , a t an Americans for Prosperity rally in Augusta, the state capital, to veto a $6.3 billion, two-year budget. Democrats criticized LePage's unwillingness to compromise on the bipartisan budget, which last week passed with two-thirds majorities in both the Maine House and Senate.
The Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives immediately blasted the remark
"LePage's language today crosses a new line, even for him," House Speaker Mark Eves said. "I would not want my children to hear these vulgar comments from the highest official in our state on the evening news."
LePage's office dismissed the criticism as a distraction from important budgetary issues.
"This wasn't the first time that expression had been used in the State House," Samantha Warren, a spokeswoman for the governor, told Reuters. She said LePage's words reflected the governor's frustration with a budget that raised taxes.
"That's where we should be focusing our time right now, and not on these comments," Warren said.
J a c k s o n c a l l e d t h e comments "inappropriate, but nothing new," and said they reflected the governor's attitude that if "you're not 100 percent with him, then he doesn't want to deal with you.
"Unfortunately, that's not the way government works," he added.

Royal Ascot visitors must pay for faux pasBig hats and fancy frocks are an integral part of Royal Ascot and organizers of Britain's glamorous racehorse meeting want to keep it that way by charging for fashion failures this year.
Royal Ascot, a 300-year-old highlight of Britain's social calendar attended by Queen Elizabeth and other royals, has taken a stand against shrinking skirts and novelty outfits, issuing strict guidelines about what to wear to the five-day event.
In the Grandstand, where tickets start from 43 pounds ($65), the rules stipulate no strapless dresses or bare midriffs for women and no branded clothing or fancy dress while skirts must be a "modest" length and men need a shirt and tie.
Turn left into the exclusive Royal Enclosure and women must wear hats, with headpiece-style fascinators banned, and men have to be attired in top hats, morning dress and black shoes.
Although royal decorum may have been a little more exuberant than usual after her majesty's horse Estimate galloped to win the Gold Cup, the first time a horse owned by a reigning monarch has won the showcase event in its 207-year history.
Anyone breaking the rules of dress can expect a tap on the shoulder by one of 20 dress-code assistants standing at the
entrance with a nottoberefused offer to buy a tie or pashmina for five pounds or rent a hat or waistcoat for a refundable 50 pounds on return of the clothing.
"We are here to help people have a wonderful day," said one of the smiling dress code assistants, dressed in a chic metallic-grey suit and matching hat.
As well as being a race meeting it is a social event, founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and attended every year by the Queen who arrives in a horse-drawn carriage at the racecourse in Ascot, 10 km from Windsor Castle.
"It needed to be reiterated that this is a
formal event and we are proud of that although that does not mean that it has to be stuffy or old-fashioned," Smith told Reuters.
"There are not many events in society or real life where you have to dress up and people were glad we make the rules clear."
Last year various items of clothing were given free to racegoers who inadvertently broke the dress code but this year is the first time of paying for errors.
"We can't afford to continue to pay for transgressions," said Smith, adding that any profit from the sales would go to charity.
Most racegoers welcomed the rules which were sent out with tickets last year and publicized
online."We need to bring some
class and elegance back into this world where so many girls look t rashy," said Mimi Theobald, 28, a milliner from Inverness, Scotland, from under a huge white hat with a tartan bow and black and white feathers.
With the stricter dress rules, Smith said some people did not make the cut and a handful were turned away this year. Most of those refused entry were women whose skirts failed to meet the rule of being of "modest length falling just above the knee".
"It's hard to provide an on-the-spot solution for that so we direct people to (the nearest shops) but we are here to help and our aim is to make sure everyone has a great day,"

WALKING ON WATER
Paddy had long heard the stories of an amazing family
tradition.
It seems that his father, grandfather and great-
grandfather had all been
able to walk on water on their 18th birthday.
On that special day, they'd each walked across the lake
to the pub on the
far side for their first legal drink.
So when Paddy's 18th birthday came around, he and
his pal Mick, took a
boat out to the middle of the lake, Paddy, stepped out
of the boat ...and
nearly drowned!
Mick just barely managed to pull him to safety.
Furious and confused, Paddy went to see his
grandmother ..
"Grandma," he asked, "Tis me 18th birthday, so why
can't I walk across the lake like me father, his father
and his father before him?"
Granny looked deeply into Paddy's, troubled blue eyes
and said, "Because ye father, ye grandfather and ye
great-grandfather were all born in December, when the
lake is frozen, and ye were born in August, ya bloody
plonker!"

quite tight tonight and played pretty good but I'm happy with the win, a good performance considering the circumstances."
Winger Ken Sio scored two tries for Parramatta, the second of which was a 90-metre intercept effort, after a pass from Reynolds deflected into his hands.
That was about the only blemish on Reynolds's copybook.
Sio scored in the corner in the 12th minute, but Reynolds and Sutton turned the game around with their well-executed option taking.
Centre Dylan Walker crossed in the 17th minute after a Reynolds stab kick deflected off Eels five-eighth Joseph Paulo and wrongfooted Parramatta full-back Jake Mullaney.
After 29 minutes, Sutton offloaded to Justin Hunt, whose
South Sydney will remain atop the NRL at the end of round 15 after completing a 30-10 win over Parramatta at the Olympic stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Rabbitohs are now three points clear of defending premier Melbourne, which takes on Gold Coast at Robina on Monday night but are just out of reach of the league leaders.
Michael Magui re 's t r oops bu i l t t he i r t h i r d consecutive win and 12th of the season with a five-tries-to-two effort in rainy conditions in the New South Wales capital despite missing State of Origin stars Greg Ingl is, Chris McQueen and Nathan Merritt.
Halves Adam Reynolds and John Sutton starred as the Rabbitohs trailed 4-0 early on at the Olympic stadium but scored the next 18 points to take control of the game.
Reynolds scored one try and set up two more with kicks and finished with 14 points.
Strapping five-eighth Sutton stood in a tackle to set up a try and scored one himself in a commanding performance.
"We stuck to our game plan to hold the ball, sets and kick long and hopefully force errors," Rabbitohs prop Sam Burgess told Grandstand.

well placed kick was touched down for a try by winger Dylan Farrell.
It took just three minutes of the second half for Souths to extend their 12-4 halftime lead to a 14-point advantage.
Another Reynolds kick set up a try to Hunt.
Sio's intercept try provided a rare moment of joy for Parramatta, but Reynolds brushed off some flimsy defence for the Rabbitohs's fourth try.
Busy hooker Issac Luke drew defenders to set up a clear passage for Sutton to score the Rabbitohs's fifth and final try in the 63rd minute.
The result makes five losses in a row for Ricky Stuart's Eels, who are
propping up the table in 16th place with just three wins to show for a nightmare campaign.
Bu t ha l f -back Chr i s Sandow was upbeat about his team's showing despite the loss.

Dear Martha,
My wife & I were finding the bedroom scene boring, after many discussions the only agreement we came too was to have a theesome with another woman. This has worked for 3 months but I now find myself in an awkward position. It seems the two ladies are having more fun together & I find myself sitting watching & not being included. While this is every man's fantasy, I can't help but think something's not right as the only time she will sleep with me is if the other woman is there. Does this mean they have fallen in love? What should I do?
Ross
Dear Ross,Sometimes it is better to keep a fantasy as a fantasy as they generally end up to be a disappointment. Clearly you didn't full fill your wife in the bedroom & this other woman does. It might be time for a dose of communication before you find yourself in a relationship with your hand dear.

Wests Tigers secured a second win in three weeks as they edged Canberra 17-12 late in the piece at Campbelltown on Saturday night.
But it was not all good news for Mick Potter's already battered troops, with Tigers hooker Masada Iosefa taken off with a broken forearm on a sour note for the home side.
Acting Tigers captain Benji Marshall delivered a couple of big plays, kicking the match-tying sideline conversion and edged the Tigers ahead 13-12 with a 73rd-minute field goal.
Winger Tim Simona sealed the Tigers' win two minutes later when he twisted his body and planted the ball over the line for a try.
The Tigers scored three tries to two in a mistake-marred game which was played in heavy rain in the second half.
Both coaches acknowledged that the soggy cond i t ions a t Campbelltown played a big part in their
r e s p e c t i v e s i d e ' s performance.
"The conditions deteriorated in the second half and it become a bit of scramble for points," Tigers coach Mick Potter told Grandstand.
"Tries were going to be hard to find, given the skill levels all have to come down, unfortunately for the crowd.
"But it made a good spectacle in itself as it was a real scramble and I'm glad that Benji kicked the field and we came up with that late try."
His Raiders counterpart David Furner was not so cheery though, bemoaning his side's lack of control over possession.
"I just thought we didn't respect the ball there in the first half," he admitted.
"We really grinded that ... they came out the first 20 minutes as I thought they would and they were beating us on the ground with the ball and without the ball.
"We just had some really good opportunities down their end to either build pressure or get some points and I just felt ... we're a better side than that."
It was a seventh loss in eight away games for Canberra this season and thwarted its bid to win three straight for the first time this year.
Over the past week Marshall had come under criticism for missing several tackles in the Tigers' last game, while the latter part of his week was dominated by more headlines
negotiations.Canberra led 6-4 at half-time
although the Tigers were first to strike, with winger David Nofoaluma crossing in the 13th minute after some slick passing.
Elusive fu l l -back Reece Robinson set up both Canberra tries.
He combined with Josh McCrone and Jack Wighton to send Sandor Earl over in the first half.
The re was a touch o f controversy about the try Robinson set up for Anthony Milford in the 58th minute.
Tigers centre Blake Ayshford appeared to have grounded Robinson in a legitimate tackle, but the Raiders full-back quickly bounced back up and continued his run.
Marshall and half-back Curtis Sironen set up Joel Reddy for the Tigers' second try.
Marshall landed a tough sideline conversion to again level the score.
Tigers centre Chris Lawrence came off the bench and returned to action after being sidelined with a hamstring injury since round seven, but was placed on report for a shoulder charge.
Joel Thompson was also put on report for a shoulder charge on Marshall in the last few minutes.
That was tame compared to the end of the under-20s match, which featured an old fashioned all-in brawl.

Aries – March 21 to April 20Rambunctious Rams are feeling restless! Jupiter shifts into your domestic zone this week so, over the next 12 months, some Aries will renovate, build an extension, move house, buy a second property or travel. Others will expand their family via a wedding or pregnancy. Avoid being impulsive on Sunday … otherwise you may say or do something that you later regret.
Taurus – April 21 to May 21Your ruling planet Venus visits your domestic zone so the next month is the perfect time to clean, de-clutter, re-decorate or renovate your living space. You're also in the mood to cook up a storm and entertain, plus buy beautiful things for your home … but avoid being extravagant with cash and careless with credit. Some single Bulls will find love in the local neighborhood.
Gemini – May 22 to June 21Dynamic Mars is moving through your sign [until July 13] so aim to be at your gregarious Gemini best, as you dash through each day with extra energy and enthusiasm. But, with Jupiter cruising through your cash zone over the coming year, watch your urge to splurge doesn't get out of control. Pluto demands that you pay close attention to balancing the books.
Cancer – June 22 to July 23Have you been capitalizing on your talents? Get set for a run of good fortune, as Jupiter sashays into your sign [for the first time in 11 years!] Travel, sport, study and adventure are all favored, as you charge out of your Crab cave and turn lucky opportunities into successful projects. Be inspired by birthday great Helen Keller “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”
Leo – July 24 to August 23Your Cat charisma gets a boost this week, as Venus vamps through your sign [from Friday until July 22]. So it's time to flirt up a storm; pamper yourself; and call in a few old favors. With Jupiter jumping into your soul zone, spiritual pursuits and helping others are on the agenda. Plus, if you have a problem you can't solve, tap into your intuition for the answers you require.
Libra – September 24 to October 23Your career is set to expand in exciting directions but don't get too carried away. Keep your feet on the ground. When it comes to a professional project or business matter, there's a strong likelihood you'll go over budget. So some serious cost-cutting is required, to get things back on track again. Over the next few weeks you'll be inspired by a creative new crowd.
Scorpio – October 24 to November 22Check your passport is up-to-date because foreign shores beckon over the coming year, as Jupiter jump-starts your travel zone. Higher education is also favored and some studious Scorpios will learn a new language. Be generous about sharing your aspirations for the future with others. The more you involve loved ones in your plans, the more enjoyable they will be.
Sagittarius – November 23 to December 21Jupiter shifts into your intimacy zone, until July 2014. So expect a boost to your sex life, as your libido blossoms. For celibate or single Sagittarians, a financial partnership flourishes … or you receive an injection of funds via an inheritance, pay rise, divorce settlement, superannuation payment or bumper tax return. Just make sure you spend [and save] any extra cash wisely.
Capricorn – December 22 to January 20Have you been having hassles with your nearest and dearest? Jupiter provides a welcome opportunity to work on partnership problems over the coming year. You'll find it's easier to find common ground than at other times. Plus, the more generous and forgiving you are, the richer your relationships will be. But resist the urge to be a compulsive Capricorn this weekend.
Aquarius – January 21 to February 19Have you been having relationship problems? With Venus visiting your partnership zone [from Friday through until July 22] perhaps it's time to swallow your pride and hold out the olive branch of peace? Plus Saturn challenges you to be more organized and focused at work. If you're looking for employment … don't give up! Strive to be patient and incredibly persistent.
Virgo – August 24 to September 23Lucky Jupiter joins the Sun and Mercury in your business contacts zone, so it's very important to network as much as you can over the next week … and the coming year. Virgos can be hesitant to trumpet their talents but if you don't promote yourself, why should anyone else? Confidence is the rocket fuel that will take your career [and your life] to the next level.
Pisces – February 20 to March 20With Jupiter activating your creativity zone [plus the Sun trine Neptune] make the most of your plethora of Piscean talents. Draw inspiration from Carly Simon [born on June 25] “There's always a creative side to me, even when it's quiet musically … like painting or decorating or planting a garden.” The Piscean Moon [on Friday and Saturday] puts you in the mood for movies and music.

"Gangnam Style" Is the 18th K-popsingle by the South Korean musician Psy. The song was released in July 2012 as the lead single of his sixth studio album Psy 6 (Six Rules), Part 1, and debuted at number one on South Korea's Gaon Chart. On December 21, 2012, "Gangnam Style" became the first YouTube video to reach a billion views. As of June 23, 2013, the music video has been viewed over 1.663 billion times on YouTube, and it is the site's most watched video after surpassing Justin Bieber's single "Baby.”
The phrase "Gangnam Style" is a Korean neologism that refers to a lifestyle associated with the Gangnam District of Seoul. The song and its accompanying music video went viral in August 2012 and have influenced popular culture worldwide since then. "Gangnam Style" received mixed to positive reviews, with praise going to its catchy beat and Psy's amusing dance moves (which themselves have become a phenomenon) in the music video and during live performances in various locations around the world. In September 2012, "Gangnam Style" was recognized by Guinness World Records as the most "liked" video on YouTube. It subsequently won Best Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards held later that year. It became a source of parodies and reaction videos by many different individuals, groups and organizations while also inspiring dance mobs in Paris, Rome, and Milan, with tens of thousands of participants each. On New Year's Eve 2012, more than one million people witnessed a live "Gangnam Style" performance in Times Square, New York City, featuring Psy and rapper MC Hammer, as well as in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
By the end of 2012, the song had topped the music charts of more than 30 countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Although its reception in Japan remained lukewarm, "Gangnam Style" topped China's Baidu 500 download list and was labeled by state media as having a "divine melody.”

As the song continued to rapidly gain popularity and ubiquity, its signature dance moves were attempted by many notable political leaders such as the British Prime Minister David Cameron, U.S. President Barack Obama, and United Nations Secretary-GeneralBan Ki-moon, who hailed it as a "force for world peace". Its influence on political activism was exemplified by the short film Gangnam for Freedom, produced by the British sculptor AnishKapoor to advocate the freedom of expression with the support of various human rights organizations such as Index on Censorship and Amnesty International. According to the United Nations' news division, Psy has become an "international sensation" through his song "Gangnam Style". On May 7, 2013, at a bilateral meeting with South Korea's President Park Geun-hye at the White House, U.S. President Barack Obama cited the success of "Gangnam Style" as an example of how people around the world are being "swept up" by the Korean Wave of culture. The term was listed in Time's weekly vocabulary list as a manner associated with lavish lifestyles in Seoul's Gangnam district,Psy likened the Gangnam District to Beverly Hills, California, and said in an interview that he intended in a twisted sense of humour by claiming himself to be "Gangnam Style" when everything about the song, dance, looks, and the music video is far from being such a high class.
“People who are actually from Gangnam never proclaim that they are—it's only the posers and wannabes that put on these airs and say that they are "Gangnam Style"—so this song is actually poking fun at those kinds of people who are trying very hard to be something that they're not. ”
The song talks about "the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild." The song's refrain "OppanGangnam style)" has been translated as "Big brother is Gangnam style", with Psy referring to himself. During an interview with The New York Times, Psy revealed that the
Korean fans have huge expectations about his dancing, so he felt a lot of pressure. In order to keep up with expectations, he studied hard to find something new and stayed up late for about 30 nights to come up with the "Gangnam Style" dance. Along the way, he had tested various "cheesy" animal-inspired dance moves with his choreographer, including panda and kangaroo moves, before settling for the horse trot, which involves pretending to ride a horse, alternately holding the reins and spinning a lasso, and moving into a legs-shuffling side gallop.According to the news agency Agence France-Presse, the success of "Gangnam Style" could be considered as part of the Korean Wave, a term coined by Chinese journalists to refer to the significant increase in the popularity of South Korean entertainment and culture since the late 1990s.

Sydney Roosters hold on to end Canterbury Bulldogs' winning streak
C a n t e r b u r y ' s resurgence over the last month was brought to an end as the Roosters pulled off a 20-18 victory at Sydney's Olympic stadium on Friday night.
But the Bulldogs came home with a wet sail as Dene Halatau and Krisnan Inu added converted tries to give the visitors a fright.
Canterbury came into round 15 on a four-game winning streak and had history on its side after hav ing bea ten t he Roosters in their last four meetings at the venue.
The tri-colours h a d n o t w o n a t Homebush since round four of 2008.
The Roosters were missing Origin stars M i c h a e l J e n n i n g s , James Maloney and Mitchell Pearce but they made their intentions known immediately as Shaun Kenny-Dowall crashed over in the fifth minute.
They were guided around the field by Maloney's back-up Daniel Mortimer, who had a hand in everything and put in an excellent kicking game in the win.
"I've had a dodgy knee the last few weeks and I haven't played 80 [minutes] in quite awhile," a puffing Mortimer told Grandstand.
"I think the cramps were coming in about 60 minutes too and I just had to keep moving and the boys really helped me out."
Mortimer, who was signed by the Roosters last season after drifting in and out of the Parramatta line-up in 2011, said
he had had his sights set on tonight's fixture.
"I've kind of looked at this game in the calendar from the start of the year and knew that I was going to hopefully be getting a run," he said.
"So to come out tonight and put a win together ... we had a very mixed week through Sonny [Bill Williams' injury doubt] and trying to prepare around the [Origin] boys and a short turnaround as well."
Williams had been in doubt with a glute injury during the week but also turned in an impressive showing in a roving role around half-back.
Ben Barba scored a stylish try in the right corner to get Canterbury on the board but for the next 50 minutes it was all the Chooks as Kenny-Dowall and Boyd Cordner each completed doubles.
The Bulldogs hit back with Halatau and Inu's tries but it was just too late.
"To give such a good defensive side like the Roosters so much points [buffer] to chase down, it was always going to be difficult and certainly something we'll learn a lot from," Bulldogs skipper Michael Ennis told
Grandstand."I think the bye's come at
the right time for us and we're looking forward to the week off and freshening up for Newcastle game in a fortnight."
Flashy winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck did not cross himself but was impressive both under the high ball and in open play in an excellent all-around showing for the Roosters.
Victory strengthens the Roosters' grip on third spot on the
ladder on 22 points, behind only South Sydney (24) and Melbourne (23), both of whom play later this weekend.
It was not all good news for Trent Robinson's m e n t h o u g h , w i t h in te rchange fo rward Dylan Napa placed on report for a shoulder charge that left Bulldogs forward James Graham's ears ringing.
Ennis said the loss of Graham certainly had
an impact on Canterbury, but the Dogs could not use it as an excuse.
" In my opin ion, I 'm probably biased, but he's the best forward in the competition," he said.
"So to lose a guy like that is disappointing, but we've got enough strike in the side to win footy games."
Queensland Origin 18th man Martin Kennedy suffered a leg injury attempting to stop Inu's last-minute try and was helped off by trainers.
Sam Kasiano is an injury concern for Des Hasler's side after he came off limping in the second half.

Giant spider 'freaks out' weather presenter
A Canadian meteorologist has had an embarrassing gaffe after a spider crawled on to the weather camera while she was live on air, appearing as if it was on her head.
Kristi Gordon shrieked and ran off camera at the first sight of the eightlegged intruder, which appeared briefly on screen as a giantsized invader above Vancouver.
One colleague off screen says“Come on. You know it's not there."
Gordon responds: "Oh my gosh that was creepy," she s a i d . " O f course he had to be right on my head.”I just don't like that."
She later tweeted she w a s c r y i n g a f t e r t h e "embarrassing spider freak out moment".

Death row inmate cannot reject reprieveA condemned murderer who tried to seek his own death warrant after Oregon's anti-death penalty governor stopped all executions in the state cannot reject that reprieve, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled.
D e m o c r a t i c g o v e r n o r J o h n Kitzhaber, in a major salvo in the nation's longrunning battle over capital punishment, i s s u e d a b l a n k e t reprieve to al l 36 prisoners on Oregon's death row in November 2011, saying he would a l l o w n o m o r e execut ions on his watch because he believed the death penalty was morally wrong.
But Kitzhaber, a former emergency room physician, stopped short of permanently commuting the sentences, saying the state's law on capital punishment was not his alone to decide.
That move came just a month before the scheduled execution of Gary Haugen, who had been convicted in two brutal killings and who responded by suing to seek his own death warrant.
Haugen argued that he did not want to live in limbo under an indefinite and impermanent reprieve, and a lower court ruled he could reject the reprieve. But the s tate 's h ighest cour t overturned that decision.
The opinion by Oregon Chief Justice Thomas Balmer found that "nothing inherent in the word 'reprieve' requires the recipient's acceptance for the reprieve to be effective."
The court, in a ruling welcomed by Kitzhaber, also
r e j e c t e d H a u g e n ' s argument that the temporary nature of the reprieve created uncertainty that constituted cruel and unusual punishment.
"I renew my call for a re-
evaluation of our current system t h a t e m b r a c e s c a p i t a l p u n i s h m e n t , w h i c h h a s devolved into an unworkable system that fails to meet the basic standards of justice,"
Kitzhaber said in a statement.Oregon has executed only two
people in the last 50 years, one in 1996 and one in 1997. Both were carried out in a prior Kitzhaber administration, which he has said
was deeply troubling to him.
S i x s t a t e s , Connecticut, Illinois, New Mexico, New York, New Jersey and M a r y l a n d h a v e repealed the death penalty since 2007, according to the Death Penalty Information Centre. A total of 18 U.S. s ta tes have e n d e d t h e d e a t h penalty.
H a u g e n w a s convicted of killing his girlfriend's mother in 1981. He and another prisoner were later convicted of the 2003 killing of another inmate while Haugen was serving his sentence for the first murder.

Spinning statue spooks museum bossesAn ancient Egyptian statue kept in a museum for 80 years has started spinning on its own.
The 25cm statue, a relic of the god of death found inside a mummy's tomb, has been filmed inside the Manchester Museum spinning 180 degrees.
The mystery of the moving mummy, which is sealed in a glass display case, has s p o o k e d m u s e u m bosses s ince the turnaround was caught on time lapse video.
Museum curator Campbell Price said there could be a "spiritual explanation" to the spinning statue.
"I noticed one day that it had turned around," Mr Price, an
Egyptologist, said "I thought it was strange because it is in a case and I am the only one who has a key.
"I put it back but then the next day it had moved again.
"We set up a time-lapse video and, although the naked eye can't see it, you can clearly
see it rotate on the film."The statuette is something
that used to go in the tomb along with the mummy.
"Mourners would lay offerings at its feet. The hieroglyphics on the back ask for bread, beer and beef.
"In Ancient Egypt they believed that if the mummy is destroyed then the statuette can act as an alternative vessel for the spirit.
"Maybe that is what i s c a u s i n g t h e movement.'
Mr Price is urging members of the public to
come along and take a look at the statue.
"It would be great if someone could solve the mystery," he said.

But seconds later a fully-laden trolley can be seen speeding down the escalator behind her.
Reports says she glances at the trolley just seconds before it strikes and throws her against a pillar six metres away, killing her instantly.
Other shoppers can be seen running down the

Naked gymnast faces charges over anticsA trained gymnast whose naked acrobat ics and harassment of passengers at a San Francisco public t r a n s i t s t a t i o n w e r e captured on video and circulated widely on the Internet is facing criminal charges over his antics, authorities said.
Yeiner Alberto Perez Garizabalo, 24, was caught on v i d e o d o i n g handstands and c o n t o r t i o n s o n turnstiles and front flips off a concrete newsstand all in the nude at a Bay Area R a p i d T r a n s i t District station.
V i d e o t h a t drew more than half a million hits on YouTube shows dozens of people watching id ly or ignor ing Garizabalo as he accosted at least three passengers during his gymnastics routine, putting a man in a headlock and charging two women before being arrested by BART police.
Garizabalo was committed to a nearby hospital after his
arrest but no police report was filed and he was released the fo l l ow ing day, sa id S te p h a n i e On g S t i l l ma n , spokeswoman for the San Francisco district attorney's office.
He was rearrested, more than a month after videos of the incident went viral, on charges i n c l u d i n g f e l o n y f a l s e
imprisonment, misdemeanour battery and misdemeanour sexual battery. He was being held on $100,000 bail and was due in court to face the charges, Stillman said.
G a r i z a b a l o w a s a m e m b e r o f t h e ClownSnotBombs Circus, an acrobatic performance troupe in
group shortly before the BART station incident.
"(Garizabalo's) memory of the incident … does not match what happened in the video," Kristen Parks and other members of ClownSnotBombs said.
"When asked to describe what he remembers in his own words, he describes being in a play
where everyone was actors. He does not remember attacking anyone," she said, adding that the troupe believes Garizabalo may be suffering from a p s y c h o l o g i c a l disorder.
P a r k s s a i d Garizabalo had since watched the video of his behavior at the BART station. "Now that he has seen the video and understands
the gravity of what really happened he feels both guilty and horrible for what he has done," Parks said.
Officials from the public defender's off ice were not immediately available to comment, and the office could not confirm that his case had been assigned to one of its lawyers.

Ash McGrath capped his 200th AFL game in style as he kicked the winning goal after the siren to help Brisbane sink Geelong by five points at the Gabba on Sunday evening.
In Brisbane the Lions trailed by as many as 52 points in the third term and came into the last quarter facing a 38-point deficit and their ninth loss of the season.
But a stunning comeback saw Brisbane kick eight goals to Geelong's lone major in the final term and 10 of the last 11 to sink the visitors 15.13 (103) to 14.14 (98).
McGrath took a mark from Dayne Zorko 55 metres out a split second before the siren sounded, and Cats coach Chris Scott was visibly unimpressed on the boundary line as he saw who had reeled it in.
The veteran Lions hardman set himself and belted the winning goal and his third for the evening, bringing the Gabba crowd to its feet.
"You practise that when you're a child, you're out on the oval by yourself and you think to yourself 'after the siren, can you kick the goal?'" McGrath told Grandstand.
"It's a boyhood dream and I was lucky enough, [with] the gods and the full moon tonight, it held last minute because it wasn't pretty off the boot.
"I couldn't get near it in the second half and lucky Dayne Zorko could see me and when I marked it I think there was about a second to go.
"I took a few deep breaths and just went through the
process that you go through all the time so I was lucky."It wasn't pretty off the boot but the full moon ... something pushed it through."Lions midfielder Brent Moloney kicked all three of his goals in the fourth quarter and almost had a fourth while
Zorko, Jed Adcock, Pearce Hanley, Mitch Golby and Daniel Rich all came up big when it counted.Rich's second goal was a huge one for the Lions, levelling the scores with two minutes to play.Geelong star Tom Hawkins, who already had three for the game, looked like he was about to get the Cats out
of the noose but he gave them just a one-point buffer when his set shot was wayward.Timeless midfielder Simon Black topped all comers with 33 possessions and five tackles in his 320th
appearance, while Rich (25 touches), Jack Redden (22) and Moloney (22) were all busy as well. The Cats, who had only lost one game coming into the twilight clash in Brisbane, were led by Hawkins's hat-
trick and two goals apiece from Steve Johnson and Steven Motlop.Johnson may have attracted the attention of the match review panel for a heavy bump that left Brisbane's Irish
defender Hanley reeling, although he was not placed on report initially..

Man fathered child with alienA 5 3 - y e a r - o l d councillor in North Yorkshire claims he has fathered a child with an alien.
"The married father of three, who represents Stakesby, said his wife had rowed with him after revealing he had a child called Zarka with an alien he refers to as the Cat Queen,"
Simon Parkes, who i s a l s o a d r i v i n g instructor, said he had sexual relations with the alien about four times a year.
"What will happen is that we will hold hands and I will say, 'I'm ready', and then the technology I don't understand will take us up to a craft orbiting
the earth," Mr Parkes said.
"My wife found out about it and was very unhappy, clearly.
"That caused a few
human level, so I don't see it as wrong."
Mr Parkes who told d o c u m e n t a r y Confessions Of An Alien Abductee that he was lifted out of his cot by an alien when he was a baby said many people in his position were too terrified to admit their similar experiences because they feared it would destroy their careers.
"Mr Parkes, who also claims his 'real mother' is a 9ft green alien with eight fingers, said people only claim he is mad because they
have not shared his experiences and that the encounters don't affect his work on behalf of Whitby residents,"

The Dockers surged into third spot with the 10.7 (67) to 4.5 (29) victory, while the finals hopes of North Melbourne appear dim after the visitors slumped to a 4-8 record.
Freo ruckman Zac Clarke told Grandstand the Dockers do not focus too much on ladder position at this stage in the season.
"It's all about each week at a time," he said.
"We'll straight away focus on Geelong next week and that's how we've been going.
"As a player you always want to play against the best and they're probably the benchmark of the competition."
The Kangaroos only managed one goal in a wet first half, but Fremantle relished the slippery conditions to open up a 27-point lead by the long break.
North Melbourne forward Lindsay Thomas was subbed off midway through the third quarter with a hamstring injury.
Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley gave North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey a torrid time.
Harvey knew he was in for a long day after Crowley tempted him into a wrestle before the opening bounce.
It would prove to be a common theme throughout the first term, with Crowley and his
Docker team-mates pouncing on any opportunity to hammer Harvey with a fierce tackle or bump.
Crowley might come under scrutiny from the match review panel after Harvey was left on his haunches during an off-the-ball incident in the opening term.
But Harvey also faces a nervous wait after striking
Crowley in the throat with an open palm during the third quarter.
The resulting 50m penalty allowed Fremantle defender Michael Johnson to kick a vital goal just as North Melbourne were
making a belated charge.Harvey, who missed
the first six rounds of the s e a s o n d u e t o t w o suspensions stemming from last year's finals loss to West Coast, finished the match with 11 possessions and a goal.
Crowley and Harvey shook hands after the match, but Harvey's body language as he engaged in a lengthy chat with Crowley suggested he was not happy with the Docker's tactics.
F r e m a n t l e midfielder Michael Barlow produced another star performance, but left the
ground in the final quarter after copping a blow to the chin.
The Dockers also lost star on-baller David Mundy before the match due to a calf injury, while N o r t h M e l b o u r n e ' s B e n Cunnington withdrew due to personal reasons.
North Melbourne's score was its lowest since round 12, 2009 and lowest ever against

Hawthorn remains top after flashy win over West Coast Eagles
Hawthorn remains on top of the AFL ladder after a 20-point win over West Coast at Docklands on Friday night.
The Eagles dropped to 10th place on percentages following the Hawks' 19.9 (123) to 16.7 (103) win.
The match began with a first-quarter shoot-out as both sides kicked six majors, but West Coast got in front by two behinds by the first change.
The Eagles were kept to just the one goal in the second stanza as Hawthorn kicked six more to move to a 26-point lead at the long break.
The visitors won the third quarter five goals to four and the final period four goals to three, but the differentials were not enough to bridge the gap as the Hawks closed out the match for their 11th
consecutive win.Jarryd Roughead and Jack
Gunston led Hawthorn's goal count with five majors each, while Luke
Hodge had 23 touches and seven marks.
Josh Kennedy kicked five for the Eagles and Luke Shuey enjoyed 33 disposals and four marks for the visitors.
Luke Breust, who kicked three for the Hawks, told Grandstand
post-match the spread of goals across the team has helped propel Hawthorn to 12 wins from 13 rounds.
He says the team is looking forward to Cyril Rioli's return from injury, saying the schemer will add even more valuable competition for places
"It's pretty easy to play in this forward line where they create so many opportunities for you," he said.
"They're great to play with. I think the spread all year in our forward line has been outstanding.
"I haven't put any more pressure on myself ... no doubt
when Cyril comes back for us, he'll just complement us and we'll just go about our business the way we have been.
"If anything, he'll just add that extra little bit to it that everyone knows he can”.
Le Mans: Audi's Tom Kristensen dedicates 24-hour win to Allan Simonsen
Audi recorded its 12th win in the Le Mans 24 hour race on Monday morning but it was a victory overshadowed by the death of Danish driver Allan Simonsen.
Simonsen's compatriot Tom Kristensen, 45, was part of the winning trio of drivers extending his all-time record of nine victories in the historic race but first since 2008.
Kristensen, whose first win came in 1997, touchingly dedicated his victory to Simonsen instead of his father, who died earlier this year.
"We lost someone yesterday who had the same dream as I did, a good bloke," said Kristensen.
"Thus my feelings at winning are different this year. I am also thinking of my father who died in March. I would like to win again so that I can dedicate it to him because this victory is for Allan."
Kristensen's team-mates
we re Sco t sman A l l an McNish, tasting victory for the third time, and Frenchman Loic Duval, who was winning for the first time.
Simonsen, 34, died as a result of injuries he suffered after a horror high-speed crash at the wheel of an Aston Martin on Saturday.
A brief tribute was paid to Simonsen before the podium ceremony on Sunday by six-time winner Jacky Ickx and Pierre Fillon the president of the organising committee.
The Audi - which gave the manufacturer its fourth successive win and 11th in the last 13 editions - came home a lap clear of the Toyota, whose trio of drivers were Frenchman Stephane Sarrazin and former Formula One duo England's Anthony Davidson and Swiss Sebastien Buemi.
Davidson, who competed for the now defunct Minardi team in Formula One driving in 24 Grand Prix,
said that Simonsen's crash had brought back terrible memories for him.
"The most difficult thing this weekend was continuing to drive after learning of the news (about Simonsen) especially for me after what happened to me last year (he had a spectacular crash)," said the 34-year-old.
"Each time I passed by where Simonsen's crash took place I thought of what happened and said to myself that could happen to any of us.
"The track was like a skating rink in the rain, there was no room for error. It was without doubt the toughest race of my life."
Audi's two-time defending champions Marcel Faessler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer had led the race until they came to a halt in front of the stands late on Saturday night and lost 43 minutes while they changed their alternator.
