RED CROSS LEARN TO SWIM This 10 week program is offered to the children and youth of KingsCounty as part of our Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Minimumage is 4 years old, we recommend starting your child at 5 years old.(Participants must be at least 3.5 feet tall so they can stand in theshallow end)

The KIDSPORT Program can assist youth reg-istering in sports which have member associ-
ations at Sport Nova Scotia, with up to $
300.00 per year/per child available to for reg-
istration and/or equipment costs. There are
qualifying levels of family income (depending
on family size) and proof of income must be
supplied (tax assessment). Kidsport does not
fund the following activities: Sports camps,
Day camps, swim lessons, Boy Scouts/Girl
Guides, dance, or other non sport programs
however Jumpstart does fund these. TheKidsport Program is administered everytwo months with application deadlinesof Jan 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, Septem-ber 1 and November 1 in effect each year.
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Programalso has a local chapter in Kings County and
can assist children and youth under 19 years
with up to $ 300.00 per year for registration
costs of any active recreation or sports pro-
gram.
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program isadministered three times per year in mid–April, early July and early October withdeadline dates varying slightly each year.

Community groups who are increasing youth
physical activity levels through creative, non-
traditional physical activity initiatives. No proj-
ect is too small! Be creative!

munity to provide ongoing physical activi-
ties and leadership
• Be able to report on the progress of the
project
• Show your group needs funding support
• Involve youth in the planning and leader-
ship of the program
• Include fair and safe play principles
• Provide either structured or unstructured
opportunities for youth to participate in

• Focus on daily activities at home, at

Adopt-a-Highway SpringCleanupThe Port Williams and District Lions Club con-duct their annual Adopt-a-Highway SpringCleanup of Hwy 358 from Greenwich Cornerto the Canard River in April. The Adopt-a-High-way Cleanup began in the village in 1997 bythe Women¹s Institute and continues todayunder the leadership of the Lions Club.
DanceTime at Port WilliamsDanceTime at Port Williams is a social danceclub comprised of people interested in bothStandard and Latin ballroom dancing. Theymeet to dance Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5p.m. at the Port Williams Community Centre,1045 Main Street, Port Williams.
The club has been in existence for 10 years,with membership coming from all over withdifferent levels of dance experience. They are aclub and not a school, but do occasionally haveguest instructors offering workshops, and clubmembers are always willing to share expertise.In addition to their regular practice sessions,they also host several dances throughout theyear: a Christmas and Spring Dance, and someother Theme dances in between.

Launchers AthleticsLaunchers Athletics is a throws club in thesport of track and field. The field events includethe discus, shot put and javelin events. Estab-lished in 2001, the aim of the club is to givespecialized training in throwing events and pro-mote fair play, skill development and to havefun throwing.
With all young athletes, goals are differentwith each person. The club's main goal will beto prepare athletes for several competitive op-portunities: (1) The 2017 Canada SummerGames (2) National Junior and Senior Champi-onships (3) Team Canada Opportunities (4)Provincial Legion team and (5) students whowould like to get ready for the school trackseason.
The club is open to individuals ages 13 and up

Port Williams ParkThe Port Williams Park is located on Hwy 358,adjacent to Centennial Drive. The park was es-tablished in 2010 and was a community effortwith the end goal being a safe and friendlyplace for kids of all ages to gather and play. Inaddition to having plenty of parking, the parkincludes an amazing play structure for children2-12 years. There are FIVE awesome slides,climbers and stepping-stones. The equipmentis rounded out with swings (for babies as well),some stationary pieces and most recently, atire-swing that was donated by a local resident.There is a hard-surface court that is used for

basketball and ball hockey (a local resident do-nated hockey nets!). There is a sun shelterbuilt by local business, Wise Owl Joinery andsponsored by the Port Williams & District LionsClub, as well as a wonderful walking trail thatis lined with trees and benches donated by resi-dents. As of, July 2012 the PW Park is alsohome to StoryWalk an interactive initiativethat combines the benefits of physical activity,time outdoors, literacy, art, community andfamily time. Picnic tables and waste receptaclesare in good supply and there is even a porta-potty! Visit our donor garden and take a see atall those who made this park possible. The PortWilliams Park was built by the community forall to enjoy.

Need a little motivation to get moving? JoinJulie Sheffield and gang on Tuesday and Thurs-day evenings at 7:00pm at Glooscap Elemen-tary to walk on the Canning sidewalks (forsafety) Bring a flashlight if you can, some re-flective vests may be available. Also meeting on Sunday mornings at GlooscapElementary at 9:00am, routes will be decidedupon arrival. We usually don't walk if theweather is inclement (rain or heavy snow/ice). Glooscap Arena
Public skate will be held on Sundays from12:45pm-1:45pm. Cost is $3 for individual or$6 per family. Helmets are required, if youdon’t have one there are some available to bor-row at the arena. For more information pleasecontact Joe Keddy at 582-3727.

Bigelow Nature TrailOfficially opened in September of 2011, theBigelow Nature Trail loops from behind thesoccer field at Northeast Kings Education Cen-tre on Bains Road and winds down throughthe woods to Hwy 221. There are markers des-ignating the local foliage along the path as wellas foot bridges and an outdoor fitness centreat the exit by the football field on J JordanRoad. The trail is open year-round for all footwalkers. Please keep dogs on leash.
