all of our new parents. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new staff, Miss Hafsa Bobat (Humanities Department), Ms. Belinda Earle (Engish Depart-ment) and Mrs. Julie Benafif (Primary Class Teacher). We have 150 new students starting at the King Fahad Academy this academic year.
Many congratulations to all the girls and boys who worked so hard to achieve such splendid results in their IGCSE exams
and to the teachers who year after year help the pupils to achieve their potential by their dedication and commitment.
Best wishes to our sons and daughters for a very happy and productive 2008-9 at the King Fahad Academy.

In June 2008 the King Fahad Academy was granted authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This is a very exciting de-velopment for the Academy; the IB Diploma is a highly prestigious award recognized all over the world as an en-try qualification to higher education institutions. Students in Grade 11 ac-cepted onto this course will complete 2 years of study aiming towards the award of the IB Diploma.
Each student must take six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Stan-dard Level, covering literature, a second language, a social science, a natural sci-ence and mathematics. They may also study Art, and will follow a programme
of creative, active and service activities as well as a course in critical thinking, as well as being required to write an Extended Essay on a subject of their choice. By the end of the course it is hoped they will have developed many of the attributes, such as independent study skills, time management and research methods, necessary for suc-cess at university and in future life.
participating in this event.
After the introductions and
key note address by the Project
manager – London Hydrogen
Partnership, Mr Daniel Pizarro
and representatives of the
sponsors, Air Products PLC.
We were entertained by a mar-
vellous science demonstration
demonstrating the feasibility of
hydrogen as a source of clean
energy for the future.
The event finally reached the
highlight of the evening: the
prize draw! Once again, the
science department is pleased
On Wednesday the 17th of Sep-
tember, the science department
was represented at the launch of
the London Schools Hydrogen
Challenge, second edition, by Dr
Jinane Chaaban and Mr Moham-
med Baba. This is the second
year running that the academy is
to announce that one of our
representatives, Dr Jinane won
the first prize at this draw.
This wonderful prize is the
opportunity of a visit to the
KFA by the Science Ambassa-
dor to demonstrate his science
experiments to the pupils at
the KFA. This is a wonderful
and fortuitous opportunity for
our pupils to benefit from the
current initiatives and possi-
bilities on the search for a
clean energy solution. This is
also another opportunity to
place our school positively in
the news. A visit by the Sci-

ence Ambassador would nor-
mally cost over two thousand
pounds sterling. So congratu-
lations to Dr Jinane for this
win and many thanks to all the
members of the science de-
partment for another year of
active participation and keen
interest.

Boys Eid Celebration The boys section held an assem-
bly to celebrate Eid. Many stu-
dents participated. As part of the
assembly program, a poem was
written by Grade 6 and per-
formed by Grade 5 students.
My aunty gives me sweets,
My uncle gives me treats,
My sister eats the lot
And then she gives me beats!
Mmmm sweets.
Ripple Red, I hide it under my
bed.
I hide it from my Mum!
Yum, yum, yum.
"Let's clean your room now
dear."
Mum! I'm out of here.
Mmmm treats.
Shish Kabab, spicy 'n' hot.
What a lot I've got.
All for me and none for you.
What!
OK I'll share it too.

which include:
•Serving as a link between the student body and the school administration, providing a channel for students to express their views about school affairs and to have a say in them;
•Providing leadership for the KFA student body, sponsoring and organizing social activities and school and community service projects;
•Setting a positive example and providing a role model for fel-low students and enabling rep-resentatives to act as ambassa-dors to the community-at-large, showing the highest standards in conduct and character.
