The Rhythm of Life
To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet…
… So sang Sammy Davis Jnr
Let’s celebrate the Rhythm of Life
with our movement and dance
events of 2014, topping it all off
with our fantastic National
Festival in Birmingham.
Plenty to look forward to.
So… keep dancing!

'Wings' theme
Our rehearsals are :
February 14 - 21
March 14 - 28
April 11 - 25
May 9 - 16
We meet on a Friday evening 7.00 - 9.00pm, at
Mortimer Community Association,
Reading Road, South Shields NE33 4UG
New Year greetings from all at Sunderland KFA.
We are working hard to encourage more to join our classes. Forty years ago when I first joined a KFA
class with Carol Blacklock, there was little for young mothers to do on an evening, however now more
Mums are working full time and there are so many more leisure activities to join. Consequently
branches have to work so much harder to attract members.
We had a fantastic AGM and workout with the wonderful Ivy Purdham in November – what great time
was had by all – it is always a great fun with Ivy.
We have also had a trip to see Birmingham Royal Ballet and the pantomime, Cinderella, at Sunderland
Empire plus a Christmas afternoon tea at Lumley Castle.
We are fundraising for the Macular Society by organising a bottle raffle and this will be dawn at our
Social Evening on 14 March.

Newcastle Branch have a monthly workout every month on the first Saturday. This is held at the Durant
Hall (Unitarian Church) Ellison Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, 10.00-11.00am followed by tea, biscuits
and a raffle. These continue throughout the year until June. A very good atmosphere with a different
teacher each month. We look forward to welcoming visitors from other areas.

Healthy donation from
keep fit group
11:38am Wednesday 22nd January 2014
By Alexa Copeland
A KEEP fit group has given a healthy boost to
Macmillan funds by donating £500 to the charity.
Members of KFA Moves Darlington raised the
amount through a variety of activities, including a
sponsored walk, a silent auction, selling handmade
greetings cards plus raffles and donations.
Keen fundraiser Michelle Thompson, who has raised
around £125,000 for Macmillan since beating cancer
herself, accepted the donation on behalf of the charity.
Heather Towers, chair of KFA Moves, said: “We at KFA Moves have been touched by the commitment,
dedication, and compassion shown by Macmillan nurses to patients and their families.
“It has been a privilege to be able to support their organisation in this small way.”
KFA Moves Darlington is also celebrating 30 years of its Thursday dance exercise class run by Veronica
Ridsdale since the building of the hall at St Thomas Aquinas Church in North Road.
Anyone wishing to join the club can contact Catherine Gilsenan on 01325-332572.
