WHU was founded in 1984 as one of the first private business schools in Germany, growing to become a leader in management research and education in an international arena. With our traditional yet innovative approach, we have reached many milestones including: Launching the Kellogg Executive MBA partnership in 1997; earning the international quality label and accreditation approval of EQUIS in 1998; earning the superior accreditation approval of FIBAA premium in 2010; and establishing an extraordinary worldwide network of over 150 universities covering all continents. Not surpris-ingly, the school is consistently ranked by lead-

ing publications as one of the top management schools in the German-speaking area.

The primary mission of the WHU is both re-search- and practice-based education of gen-eral managers and entrepreneurs who excel in leadership, business and civil society roles. Located between Frankfurt and Cologne, one of the most vibrant areas of Europe, the school can easily be reached from any region world-wide. In the quaint locality, one also has the benefit of a close-knit community while obtain-ing world class education. For more information, please refer to www.whu.edu.

“The Kellogg-WHU EMBA was an ambition come true. The powerful combination of one of the top German business schools, WHU, with a European destination and the Kellogg brand was an easy decision to make. Three years have now passed since completing the EMBA and, as a recent father for the second time, as well as a promotion to Vice-President of Marriott for planning new hotels in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and president of the Kellogg/Northwestern alumni club in Switzerland, I still live the Kellogg-WHU ethos. I am fortunate to travel widely with my job and meet with alumni in many countries and I am convinced that the global network and mutual respect which the Kellogg-WHU EMBA creates, allows us all to make a greater contribution to our companies, society and to each other.”

Your Quality Assurance – Our Excellent CredentialsLaunched in 1997, the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program was a pioneer, offering the first joint global EMBA degree in Europe. Its extensive and proven success in innovation and quality, professional program management and dedication to its participants continue to set standards in executive education worldwide.

“As the first German business school to beawarded the European Foundation for Management Development’s Equis (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation, it has also established itself as a major international player in management education and was ranked by the Financial Times as Germany’s Top Business School in 2010 … The partnership with the Kellogg School of Management exemplifies WHU’s global perspective as well as exploiting the synergies between two very different schools.” International Herald Tribune (Advertising Supplement), June 2011

“Collaborative leadership is a model whose time appears to have come in business as well as business education. The days of the imperial CEO bestriding an organisation, browbeating the company with the force of his personality, became suddenly unfashionable at around the same time that subprime mortgages did. But, perhaps unusually for academia … teamwork has long been a characteristic of Kellogg.” Economist, March 30th 2011

“Detecon has a longlasting relationship with KelloggWHU. We send high potential managers into the Executive MBA program who have been recognized for exceptional performance in their profession. During the program, they not only broaden their expertise and skillset, but also are able to apply what they have learned in their professional environment. Our graduates leave the program with a very sound understanding of global business and skills that help them in taking over leading roles in international telecom and hightech industries.”Daniel Kellmereit, EMBA 2005, CEO Detecon Inc., USA

“The KelloggWHU Executive MBA Program is one of Merck’s Management Development Programs for high potential managers. The aim of the program is to prepare future Merck managers to successfully lead in a constantly changing environment. It allows them to further develop their global management knowledge and leadership skills. The EMBA classes are composed of participants from a variety of international companies and nationalities, creating an international basis for the exchange of experiences and skills. The participants can apply their learning to our business reality, thus enhancing their own performance and that of the company.” Ruediger Janisch, Head Management Development, Merck KGaA

“The KelloggWHU Executive MBA offered the best caliber, topranked, global curriculum and experienced worldclass faculty through its international program and its Kellogg partner business schools. I have learned and acknowledged, that one may attain its goals and objectives successfully, not individually but by combining experiences, via teamwork, through a rigorous demanding discipline and by having respect, good will and universal social values of urban and civic courtesy for one another.”JorgeAlberto YarteSada, Sales Director Portugal –Added Valued Products, Vitro, EMBA 2009

“I use the skills gained from the KelloggWHU Executive MBA Program every day in my professional life. The program gave me a deeper understanding of organizational and market forces on a global scale, and this knowledge has enabled my career to grow on a multinational level within a fast moving industry.”Michael Kenney, EMEA Small and Medium Business Finance Director Dell, EMBA 2001

“My global electives were the highlight of my EMBA experience at Kellogg. I had an incredible opportunity to visit Kellogg-Racanati, Kellogg-WHU and Kellogg-HKUST with Global Initiatives in Management (GIM) class in addition to attending the global live-in weeks in Evanston. I was not only able to expand my network of faculty, classmates and alumni in over 4 continents, I experienced firsthand the cultures and business practices and developed appreciation for the deeper impact of globalization of our economy in 5 countries. This was truly a transformational experience for me as a future global leader.”

“Besides the teaching, the excellent quality of the international faculty, as well as a very professional organisation, I was impressed by the diversity of my peers’ profiles. In fact, the latter proved to be a dominant motivational aspect for me througout the program. Sharing and benefiting from professional experi-ences – industrial, entrepreneurial, cultural, and of course personal – was key in the course of our studies, and helped me to bring in, as well as to develop my expertise. Even today, I am still benefiting from those very close relationships in my daily business operations.”

Page 14: Kellogg-WHU Brochure

“The Executive MBA provided me with a framework that deepened my understanding and interpretation of daily professional activities as an entrepreneur. Personal growth and leading skills development were an integral part of the program as I learned to cope with and thrive under the challenge of professional and cultural diversity in study groups. Through the personal development component of the curriculum, I became aware of my own management patterns and discovered how to use this blueprint to manage and motivate teams and individuals. Thanks to the extremely high quality of this program, I gained knowledge and experiences for every aspect of life.” Natacha Dagneaud, Founder and Managing Director, Séissmo, EMBA 2009

“The KelloggWHU EMBA Program offered an incredible personal, professional and educational experience. It improved my preexisting skills and provided me with the tools I have been looking for. Now I can precisely apply those in my daily business. After having worked for many years for a big multinational US corporation, the program reconfirmed me to run my own companies and I wonder why I haven’t done it long before.“ Jesus Lopez, Managing Director and Owner of Edelmann Technology GmbH & Co. KG, Edelmann Service GmbH, PSA Technology GmbH and PSA Technology Sarl, EMBA 2002

“During the Kellogg-WHU EMBA Program I was impressed by the attitude, expe-rience level and motivation of the people with whom I worked very intensely during the classes, as well as those whom I met over the two years around the world. The excellent and professional teaching provides me the perfect tool box for my professional life. Both, the people network and the learnings from the program, clearly stimulated me to move from an employee in a large telecom company to a true entrepreneur in a newly founded mid-size company. Overall, the great Kellogg-WHU Program helped me tremendously in developing my professional career and my own personality.”

16

Your Personal Development – Our Full ConcentrationTeam leadership is an essential success factor for managers in any organization – small, public or private. As managing skills no longer imply command and control but, instead, motivate and communicate, becoming deeply aware of one’s personal characteristics is key for successfully working with and leading others. We take it seriously as well.

LIFO® (Life Orientation) is a psychometric tool which has been used by man-agers worldwide for over 30 years. By identifying your most and least preferred behavior, the tool enables you to recognize how you interact with others and, based on these findings, suggests techniques to develop effective teamwork and communication methods. Offered and analyzed by a certified trainer and internationally experienced Human Resources expert, this profile and sub-sequent coaching assist the candidate in working with the assigned study groups during the program – and with colleagues in the workplace at any time.

In an atmosphere of mutual trust, the open feedback of your peers is a reveal-ing process in continuing the journey from the original self-assessment. Under the guidance of an expert in Human Resources Management, students have the opportunity to obtain feedback from group peers, as well as those outside of the program, if wished. This step in the personal development process assists the participant to evaluate how effective methods suggested as a result of LIFO® and coaching are – and provides a secure arena to amend behavior, if necessary.

Clearly, personal development is just that – personal. During this stage of the process, participants benefit from skilled and certified coaches experienced with issues confronting the management world. Students delve further into themselves to develop a framework to move forward individually while leading others. As the coaches also come from various business and cultural milieus, they are best suited to guide candidates – regardless of background.

“I originally sought an EMBA from Kellogg-WHU for all the traditional reasons. I was looking to enhance my leadership skills, pick up new management tools, improve my financial acumen and network with an international group of smart and motivated business leaders. The surprise benefit of the program, which I have only recently appreciated, is how my Kellogg-WHU experience has enabled me to manage the challenges of an executive career, balanced with the demands of raising a family. The EMBA gave me the skills and confidence to enhance my career. But the real payoff has come now that I have applied these skills to the multiple priorities in my life.“

“The Kellogg-WHU EMBA Program uniquely provides valuable cross-sectoral insight and has helped me a great deal to broaden my functional and interpersonal skills. I really enjoyed the open dialogues and intense debates in class and after study hours both with members of the program faculty and peers. On top of things, the way the program is organized mainly using the weekends for on-site studiesreserving the weeks for business and personal affairs leaves enough room to combine both personal & professional goals with a great academic experience. Now, nearly ten years after graduation, I am proud to say, this program is full of work, networking opportunities and learning exercises – it has been and it is a well thought invest in human capital.”
