CHRIST OUR HOPE IN LIFE AND DEATHJordan Kauflin | Keith Getty | Matt Boswell | Matt Papa | Matthew Merker © 2020 Getty Music Hymns and Songs
What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone Christ alone
What is our only confidence? That our souls to Him belong
Who holds our days within His hand? What comes apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ in which we stand
O sing hallelujah Our hope springs eternal
O sing hallelujah Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death
What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good God is good
Where is His grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood
Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh Unto the shore the rock of Christ? (Chorus)
Unto the grave what shall we sing? "Christ He lives Christ He lives"
And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with Him
There we will rise to meet the Lord Then sin and death will be destroyed
And we will feast in endless joy When Christ is ours forevermore (Chorus)

RESPONSIVE READING, PSALM 135*Bold to be read by congregation
L: Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord, give praise, O servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God!
P: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!
L: For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.
P: For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.
L: Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.
P: He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
L: He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and of beast;
P: who in your midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants;
L: who struck down many nations and killed mighty kings, Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan
P: and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel.
ALL: Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.

Most blessed most glorious the Ancient of Days Almighty victorious Thy great name we praise

We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree And wither and perish but naught changeth Thee
Great Father of glory pure Father of light Thine angels adore Thee all veiling their sight
All praise we would render O help us to see Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee

ROMANS 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

THE SOLID ROCKEdward Mote Public Domain
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on his unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil (Chorus)
His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay (Chorus)
When He shall come with trumpet sound, oh may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne (Chorus)

‘TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS Words Louisa Stead (1882) | Music William Kirkpatrick (1882) Public Domain
New arrangement BMI Songs from Well House (2008)
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest, and joy and peace (Chorus)
Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood And in simple faith to plunge me ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood! (Chorus)
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend And I know that Thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end

JUDGES 14Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as my wife.” 3 But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.” 4 His father and mother did not know that it was from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines ruled over Israel. 5 Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. 6 Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. 7 Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson's eyes. 8 After some days he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. 9 He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion. 10 His father went down to the woman, and Samson prepared a feast there, for so the young men used to do. 11 As soon as the people saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him. 12 And Samson said to them, “Let me now put a riddle to you. If you can tell me what it is, within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothes, 13 but if you cannot tell me what it is, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Put your riddle, that we may hear it.” 14 And he said to them, “Out of the eater came something to eat. Out of the strong came something sweet.” And in three days they could not solve the riddle. 15 On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, “Entice your husband to tell us what the riddle is, lest we burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you invited us here to impoverish us?” 16 And Samson's wife wept over him and said, “You only hate me; you do not love me. You have put a riddle to my people, and you have not told me what it is.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?” 17 She wept before him the seven days that their feast lasted, and on the seventh day he told her, because she pressed him hard. Then she told the riddle to her people. 18 And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” And he said to them, “If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have found out my riddle.” 19 And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck down thirty men of the town and took their spoil and gave the garments to those who had told the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father's house. 20 And Samson's wife was given to his companion, who had been his best man.
