A dad is someone who wants to
catch you before you fall, but
instead picks you up, brushes you
off, and lets you try again.
A dad is someone who wants to
keep you from making mistakes but
instead lets you find your own
way, even though his heart breaks
in silence when you get hurt.
A dad is someone who holds you
when you cry, scolds you when
you break the rules, shines with
pride when you succeed, and has
faith in you even when you fail...
What is A Dad? That is a good
question. When I think of Dads I
think of the passage found in
Joshua, Have I not commanded
you? Be strong and courageous. Do
not be terrified; do not be
discouraged, for the LORD your
God will be with you wherever you
go.ʺ Joshua 1:9. I think of men
who have stood the test of time
and found themselves
wondering, Did I do it right?
What is a Dad? Let me say this, I
believe a dad is someone who
Father of the fatherless and
protector of widows is God in his holy
habitation. ~Psalm 68:5

thought about what it means to
be a father prior to having a
child and has accepted the
responsibility of raising them
even when life gets tough. I
believe a dad is a man who is
willing to love his wife, family
and friends even when they put
you down or say things that
hurt, words flowing out of our
mouths without restraint. I
believe that a dad is the guy who
makes a stand for what is right
in God s sight without worrying
if others think he is cool or not? I
believe that a Dad is the man
who makes a decision and when
he knows it was wrong is willing
to say, I am sorry. Come on
guys, you know that is tough to
do. Dads, our family is waiting
for us to do this when it s
appropriate.
I look back at my dad, who by
the way is now residing with the
Lord, and I would say although
he was not a manly man, he was
a man of integrity. A man who
loved the Lord our God with all
of his heart and tried to do what
he felt was right by Gods
standards, a man who followed
the Lords commands every day
not just when it is forced upon
him or easy to do.
Maybe that is what the Lord was
speaking about in Joshua when
he told us, Be strong and
courageous. Do not be terrified; do
not be discouraged, for the LORD
your God will be with you wherever
you go. Being strong and
courageous meaning us being
willing to admit our faults and
stand on our strengths before
the Lord in this world in which
we live right now.
I pray I have been and can be a
dad like the one described
above. No one said being a man
of God would be easy, the Lord
just told us to do it and that He
would be there with us! Let s
follow Him men!
See you Sunday!

Upward Bound Camp, located in
Lyons, OR (east of Salem), is one
of two Christian campgrounds
nationwide dedicated to
physically and mentally
handicapped individuals ages 12
years and older. The purpose of
Upward Bound is to provide on‐
going Christian based
recreational and educational
camp experiences for persons
with disabilities in an environ‐
ment that presents opportunities
for growth outside the
individual s usual routine or
habitat . Their philosophy is to
sing a S.O.N.G. of respect.
Respect self, respect others,
respect nature, respect God.
They support the belief that
every person is important,
created by God, worthy of love
and caring service. Camp gives
every person the opportunity to
realize and share their gifts and
individual special abilities.
They routinely take donations of
clothing, household and camp
items. Only clothing considered
fit to wear will be accepted from
the exchange on June 28th..
The Camp s season is from June
to September, but is open year‐
round for respite care (how the
Lewis family became associated
with them). Stephen loves it
and he goes to camp every year.
Upward Bound routinely scores
100% on any inspection or
certification. Jerry and Laura
Pierce have been the directors
for almost 30 years. The camp
staff and counselors use
nicknames in lieu of real names.
Jerry is known as Grasshopper,
and Laura is known as Muskrat.

A Beginning
Council UpdatesTaken from Meeting Minutes of May 12, 2014
To illustrate this point, Pastor
quoted Howard Head, leaders
who expect progress must allow
some latitude for failure , Peter
Druker s philosophy of, the
better a man is the more
mistakes he will make and
another quote of, obsession
with complete order curbs
creativity. Applying these ideas
to growing new ministries
requires allowing for a reason‐
able amount of mess, mistakes
and chaos. That is the price of
progress.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Karen Tindall, Treasurer,
reported there was enough
money to pay the bills. Charlie
Osburn, Council Chair, thanked
Karen for paying the bills in a
timely manner.
PASTOR S REPORT:
Pastor Culver gave an update
that the applicant interviewed in
April, for the vacant Youth
Minister position, has been
notified of non‐selection. A
second candidate will be
available for interview the first
week in June. Travel expenses for
the interview were approved.
Pastor Milt and Shirley will bo
on vacation June 19 ‐ 25th.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Barb Provo Music & Worship:

is progressing on plans for 2014

will be coordinated by the Music
& Worship Committee, outreach
projects coordinated by Ken

Kathie Richards was asked to
cover publicity.
Lorraine Taylor Fellowship:
The Easter Brunch was once
again a success ‐ well presented
and received.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Budget: The 2014‐2015 Budget
prepared by the Executive
Committee was presented to the
Council by Chairman Osburn.
Council reviewed, addressed
and approved the Proposed
Budget as presented to Council.
Nominating Committee: Dave
Peck will ask members of the
congregation to serve on the
2014‐2015 Committee. A ballot
with names will be prepared for
the semi‐annual business
meeting to be voted on.

suggested the list of potential
future Eagle Scout projects that
is being developed be provided

Giftings
How are you gifted, or can you tell?
Is it the things you can do quite well?
Not necessarily, for many can do
The very same thing, look deeper for you
Will notice the course of your special skill.
Which God has given to fill‐your‐bill !
Look not for another glorious activity,
Stay with your giftings ...
true joy you will see.
