GREATER AMMAN WATER SCADA PROJECT Owner : Water Authority of Jordan.
Location : Greater Amman Geographic Area.
Commissioning date : (Foreseen) February 2006 (under construction).
Project value : 3.4 Million JD.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS
The objective of this Contract is to implement an integrated SCADA system that will enable the optimization of the management of the water abstraction and distribution systems in Greater Amman. This will involve the design and installation of a SCADA system and its associated communications infrastructure to approximately 85 designated sites in the Greater Amman district and also the interfacing to the SCADA systems of the Capital Investment Projects in the different locations in Amman. The proposed SCADA system Scope of Works for Greater Amman shall comprise:
a. A centralized processing and monitoring facility at Dabouq reservoir.
b. An integrated communications network based on UHF radio.
c. Distributed intelligence using microprocessor-based outstations for monitoring, data logging and local process control as necessary.
d. Remote operator consoles. These are to be configured to provide
monitoring facilities under normal operation and control under other operating conditions.
e. A building to house workshops, operations units and the SCADA
system located at the Dabouq reservoir site.
The control philosophy to be adopted shall be one of a centralized supervisory processing facility with distributed control (by the outstations), i.e. the control centre will not be responsible for the minute-by-minute control of plant. The control centre will monitor the status of plant and instigate remedial action only when the outstation has exhausted its local contingency programs, and raised an appropriate alarm. Under normal operating conditions the facilities provided under the existing program operate under local closed-loop arrangements. For anything other than normal operation it must be possible to transfer control to the Central SCADA Centre.

APC PLANT OPTIMIZATION AND EXPANSION
PROJECTS – SOLAR PONDS
Owner : Arab Potash Company
Location : Ghor Safi
Commissioning date : December 2007 (under construction). Expected August 2009
Project value : 3,579,000 JD
Contractor : China International Water & Electric Corp.
A- INTRODUCTION
Introduction
The Solar Ponds are the main source of potash for APC. Harvesters located in various ponds harvest and pump raw material through a series of booster pumps. APC Factory is the is the final destination where the raw material will be processed and converted to Potash. In this project, TECO employed a new SCADA System for controlling the Booster Pumps and their associated Seal Water Pump. Wireless System is employed all over the Solar Ponds including harvesters. Two control schemes for each motor is available for the operator to choose from: Automatic Mode: The PLC will adjust the VFD speed according to a setpoint in the SCADA System, Manual Mode: The PLC will take the VFD speed from the operator direct input on the SCADA System. IP Cameras are distributed in all stations with Pan-Tilt-Zoom Capability and remote
monitoring/recording via a dedicated station located in the main control station (S1). IP camers are
also monitored from the stations and the harvesters that they relate to.
Scope of Work:
Scope of work included an Advanced Wireless and SCADA System based on IP Standard. Starting from the design up to the installation and commissioning of the system which covers a comprehensive control and supervision of erection centers and controlled pumps, power transformers ,and moving objects (harvesters) instrumentation, cameras etc…all over the plants site.
