Mission Statement Through the teachings of Jesus Christ and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, as Catholic Christians, strive to teach our youth, evangelize our community and renew our faithful. We will promote the principles of the Catholic Church through
Scripture, Sacraments, prayer, almsgiving and penance — helping each other to seek eternal salvation with God in heaven.

Recounting the Experience of Christ
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
When people write biographies of famous people, especially famous persons that they knew personally, they write about their lives in a personal way. Different personalities write in different ways. Some people speak about themselves in the “Third Person.” If the writer was highly educat-ed, he would write the biography in a more sophisticated manner. If the person was simple, he would recount the biography in a basic manner. This is how the four gospels were written. Mat-thew, Mark, Luke and John all had personal experiences of Jesus. They all saw Him in different ways, and yet there is a unity to their stories. St. Matthew and St. John were apostles of Jesus; St. Mark was an interpreter for St. Peter; St. Luke was a doctor and evangelized with St. Paul.
The word “Gospel” means “good news.” But what kind of “good news”? Free lunch for eve-rybody! No — the good news that sin, death and darkness do not have to rule our lives. God sent His only Son that we might have life and have it to the full! In the beginning of the gospel reading today from St. Luke, he is introducing the good news of Jesus Christ. This is not like a journalist writing everything down as it happens, but a “committing to paper” what has already been preached. St. Luke wanted the message of Jesus Christ, the message of salvation to be committed to writing so that we would have a firm basis for faith in Him.
The other day someone asked me how we know the gospels are true. One reason is that the gospel writers’ stories all complement each other and they were all willing to die for their witness to the truth of Jesus Christ. The other reason we know they are true because the Church approved them in the first few centuries of Christianity, and the Church is guided by the Holy Spirit. Despite the weaknesses of the Church’s members and leaders, we know that the testimony of the Bible is true because the Church gives it to us. The second reading from 1 Corinthians 12 speaks about the component parts of the Church. The Church has a hierarchy for teaching, sanctifying and gov-erning the Body of the Church. And of course, all of us here have a part to play in the Body of Christ. We are the “eyes” of the Church through our prayer and meditation, and of course, we are the “hands” of the Church through our concern for the least of Jesus’ brothers and sisters. A major way we can show concern for the most vulnerable, especially the unborn, is the “40 Days for Life” Campaign in Tyler March 6-April 14 < https://40daysforlife.com/local-campaigns/tyler>. This pasto-ral initiative presents us with the opportunity to not only share the Gospel — the good news — with men and women in crisis pregnancies, but also remind us of our need to be Christ’s hands and feet in this world — His instruments of mercy for our hurting world.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Lowry

Lowry

The Three to Get Married marriage formation retreat weekends are an opportunity for cou-ples to learn how to put Christ at the center of the marriages as they prepare for the Sacra-ment of Holy Matrimony. Mentor couples are
invited and encouraged to attend with their engaged couples for the Saturday session.
The retreat will cover important formation topics such as Communica-tion and Family of Origin, but will also spend time with the treasures of our Catholic faith, such as the importance of prayer, the sacra-ments, Confession, and the Holy Eucharist. This is an important part of the marriage formation process, and we are looking forward to having you with us!
Please note: For this retreat weekend, couples will have the option of registering to stay overnight or commuting to the retreat center. In order to receive credit towards your marriage formation, couples are required to stay for the entire retreat weekend. Please select another weekend retreat if you are unable to stay for full Friday and Saturday sessions.

Ask a Knight
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of
God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
