Catholic School’s Week Open House

about Open House 2019. We need a Parent
Committee to help run Open house on Sunday,
January 27, 2019 from 10 AM-2 PM at school.

hours and helping us to show off our amazing
school please contact Mrs. Jen Ahern at
[email protected] or call (708) 598-
8200.
Tax Credit Scholarships 2019
Please consider donating to the Tax Credit
Scholarship Program this year and help fund
St. Patricia School’s scholarships. These
scholarships will allow students who otherwise
would not be able to attend our school, due to
financial reasons, to receive a Catholic
education. This year they are matching 2x the
amount donated and once more you may
receive a 75% tax credit on your donation. It
is important that you name St. Patricia School
as the place you wish your donation to go. See
the Brown Envelope for more information.
KoC Free Throw Contest
The annual Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw Contest will take place in the Gym
on January 18th at 1:45 PM. If a student would like to join the contest, he or she must
fill out an entry form. There are forms in
Brown Envelope.
During the winter season, black-
top parking lots and driveways
can easily form icy and slippery
surfaces that can be dangerous to
both drivers and pedestrians.
Even if the surface is salted,
temperature, moisture, and
traffic can affect the surface and
make it more or less slippery.
Tips:
1. Drive slowly.
2. Stay on well driven paths.
3. Do not cut across parking
lots.
4. Be careful getting out of
your car. Hold on to the
car.
5. Walk slowly. Keep hands
out of your pockets for
balance.
6. Wear shoes/boots that have
treads on the bottom.
7. Walk in designated walkways
as much as possible. Taking
shortcuts over snow piles
and other frozen areas can be
hazardous. Look ahead when
you walk; a snow- or ice-
covered sidewalk or drive-
way, especially if on a hill,
may require travel along its
grassy edge for traction.

If there is any student who missed auditions but
who would still like to be a part of the play, just talk to Mrs. Scialo. There are
still some roles open. And remember – we can’t pull this off without a wonder-
ful crew as well. So speak to her about that too. Al-so, please let Mrs. Scialo
know as soon as possible sizes for each of your ac-tors.
Snacks for Practices
Although we like to think the students come back every year for the love of
theater, we really think it is for warm juice and Dor-itos – and we cannot dis-
appoint them. Just drop off a snack and/or drink in the office and let them
know it is for the play and we will use it when we need it.

Freaky Friday
Auditions for this year’s spring musical, Freaky
Friday the Musical, were held Tuesday. We say this every year but these were
by far the hardest audi-tions we have held. In some cases we had 10 –
11 students trying out for the same role. The 8th grade girls were phenom-
enal which made the casting even more diffi-cult. We are so very
proud of all the students who went beyond their
comfort zone to prove how much they wanted their roles. But in the
end, it all fell in to place and we hope we have not disappointed anyone.
First practice for everyone – both casts – is today, Thursday, in the School
Hall until 5:00 PM.

was assassinated in 1968.
In 1968, shortly after Mar-
tin Luther King died, a
campaign was started for
his birthday to become a
holiday to honor him. Af-
ter the first bill was intro-
duced, trade unions lead
the campaign for the fed-

dorsed in 1976. Following
support from the musician Ste-
vie Wonder with his single
"Happy Birthday" and a petition
with six million signatures, the
bill became law in 1983. Martin
Luther King Day was first ob-
served in 1986, although it was
not observed in all states until
the year 2000. In 1990, the Wy-
oming legislature designated
Martin Luther King Jr/Wyoming
Equality Day as a legal holiday.
Martin Luther King was an important civil rights activist. He was a leader in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States. His most famous address was the "I Have A Dream" speech. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He
