A Look at James 3
Objective: What we learn in James 3 about the tongue, wisdom and a teacher’s expectations.
Keep in mind: James is talking about the individual’s behavior. But your conduct will have effects on your family, the church, etc.
James 3:1-12 A stern warning for teachers. Are we to get out of the teaching business? The seriousness that comes with teaching the
Bible.
A Look at James 3
James 3:1-12 (continued) How a small member of our body can have
such a positive—or negative—impact. We can’t tame our tongue by ourselves. Inconsistency in blessing God while cursing
people who are created in His image. Mixing the speech of blessing and cursing
will only produce negative results. How many sins would be prevented, if we
would always be consistent?
A Look at James 3
James 3:13-18 The solution: Seek divine wisdom. God is not the author of confusion. He brings
harmony and peace (I Cor. 14:33). Evil produces confusion and corrupts relationships. How are we known? By our works.
How dangerous is the tongue? Prov. 6:16-19: A lying tongue is an abomination to
the Lord. Eph. 4:29: High standards of speech for a Christian.
