ATLANTATEACHERS TOASK EQUAL PAY

ATLANTA (ANP) Negroteachers of Atlanta will appeal tothe state board of education inGeorgia for equal pay to thatgiven White teachers, it was an-nounced last week by A. T. Wal-den, lawyer fighting their case.

This action is being taken inconformance with a recent U. S.Supreme court action. The highcourt had refused to hear theteachers’ appeal because theteachers had not used all their ad-ministrative remedies within thestate before taking their case to

The state board is authorized tocourt.hear appeals from city boards. Itpays Negro and White teachers onseparate scales Negroes nowget 94 percent (in some cases)of what White teachers receive,the board says. In January thepay is supposed to be equalizedunder the Minimum Foundationprogram which is financing teach-ers’ pay.

Minneapolis, Minn. (ANP) —

Mrs. Camille Kellar, recent win-ner of a racial restrictive coven-ant case against Whites, finallyhas moved into her new home.She bought the home May 1, buthad to wait until last week tomove in because of court action.

The former owners, Mr. andMrs. Silas Paulson through courtaction had tried to void the saleon the grounds that the place wasnot to be sold to a Negro. Theyaccused the real estate agent, Wil-liam Cassius, of fraud in sellingto Mrs. Kellar.

When the case reached court,however, Judge Theodore Knud-son threw the case out of court.He said Mrs. Keller’s race wasimmaterial, and no evidence offraud had been given. The courttrial took place Sept. 7.

Since then, however, severalconferences were arranged be-tween Mrs. Keller and her Whiteneighbors. The Whites becamefriendly toward the Negro, andfinally agreed that there wouldbe no trouble if she moved intothe community.

Scants To Hold SwimMeet At Dixie Park

The annual swim meet of theSouth Florida Council, Boy Scoutsof America will be held at thenew Dixie Park Swimming: Pool,Saturday, October 28 at 2 p.m.

The meet will be divided intojunior and senior divisions, whichwill include: 25 yard free style,25 yard breast stroke, undressingrace, rescue race, relay races, life-line race and fancy diving.

All South Florida CouncilTroops are expected to competefor the prizes. A beautiful trophywill be awarded to the troopscoring the most points; and first,second and third place ribbonswill be awarded to individualscouts.
