an ideal person to head this area. He has taken on this task with great energy and I am sure that we will see great things due to his contributions. He currently also serves on the RDA committee and has previously been its treasurer.
Most of the sub-committees have now been formed and we have involved more than 20 persons from outside the Committee in these. I am certain that the Club will gain from the experience and expertise of these dedicated volunteers.
I hope to be able to announce dates soon for various forums, which we intend to hold to meet members and to share plans, listen to suggestions and also to update members on progress. We also intend to keep regular posts on the Club Notice Boards so that members can stay in touch with Committee activities and decisions.
Please do not hesitate to speak with any of your Committee members if you would like to bring anything to our attention. Here’s to a great year!

SCSIY-B was held on 3rd to 5th February. In support of
Hays and Popcorn. The Singapore team of Caroline Chew
won the Team competition on Saturday. Club horse, Popcorn, with Australian rider Thomas Smith placed third in the Individual competition on Sunday. The Club’s team of Erin Buswell and Alana Thorburn beat off stiff competition from BSTC and NEC and won the Patron’s Cup; the Club’s riders Sasha Thorburn, Erin Buswell and Jackie Duffy took home the three placings for the Individual competition. Club members Timothy Khoo-Jones, Brian Reinhart, Neil Thorburn and Paul Cuthbertson volunteered
the event, Predrag Marjanovic.
Alana: “I was very proud to represent the Singapore Polo Club in the PatronsCup. I rode Falco who is a school pony. I competed in a team with Erin Buswell who is a fellow squad member and she rode a school pony called Toby. We found it very fun and competitive; the other teams also did really well and we were very happy to win. Overall I think that the show was a great idea and it was good for us to compete in such a way with the other clubs and to watch the riders compete in the borrowed horse competition. It was a great experience.”

VALENTINE’S FIESTA
o Anna Haeger: “On Sunday 19th of February, I competed in the Valentine’s Fiesta Show Jumping Competition against other riders from the NEC and Singapore Polo Club. I competed in the 95cm on Mimo, before doing a late entry into the 105cm class. I was more
nervous in this competition than usual, as I had fallen off in my Thursday lesson. I hadn’t ridden Mimo for a couple months, but had previously been working with Mimo towards competing in the higher classes. I got a clear round
I was happy with! I then late entered the 105cm, and got one knockdown on
1m+ again, I have been invited to the Senior Jumping Squad. I hope to lease
competition, as I have never competed in it before.”

The TREADZ adventure started in 2008 during a trip in Argentina. The Alpargatas shoe fascinated the two founders, because of its style, comfort and also its history:
During the Spanish colonization, the traditional Espadrille was introduced into South America. The inhabitants wanted to adapt the espadrille to their needs.
needed a stronger, more practical and comfortable shoe that was easier, faster and cheaper to manufacture. This gave birth to the Alpargata shoe.
The Alpargata was originally made for farmers and Gauchos, but after generations, it started to catch on with the rest of the population because of its comfort and its original style. It is today an eToday, the trend is nationwide. This shoe has become part of the Argentinean culture and is worn by people from all classes and backgrounds.
As part of our commitment to the environment, Treadz ensures that 25sqm of forest is saved with every shoe purchased. To
