Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.
OBJECTIVES
Students will understand and use the symbols <, +, >.
Students will compare two two-digit numbers, based on previous knowledge of tens and one digits, and will use the appropriate symbol.
RESOURCE/MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT NEEDEDBoard to display the information
Ipads with the following applications:
• Line ‘em Up, Educreations
• Scan
• Greater Than
Worksheets and answer sheets to record answers
INTRODUCTION
An introduction will include a pre-assessment on the student’s previous knowledge of two-digit numbers.
Students will then use the Line em Up application to establish previous knowledge of number order.
LESSON
A lesson will then include the explanation of symbols <, =, and > and how they are used.
Once a basic understanding is established, examples will be placed on the board and students will answer using the Educreations whiteboard application. Using this application, they will display <, =, or > for each problem shown on the board.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Next, groups will be established and handed worksheets. The students will each have a personal answer sheet. Each student answers the problem on their answer sheet. The answers are checked using the QR scanning application.

INDEPENDENT STUDY AND REVIEW OF CONCEPTThe teacher then reviews the answers
with the class and the student’s share their answers.
Students will finish off the lesson with the Greater Than application that will allow them to work independently with some assistance from the teacher.
ASSESSMENT
Using the Line ‘em Up application, the application will finish once the student has properly put all the numbers in correct order.
Students then are assessed during the lesson based off observation of their Educreations whiteboard answers. This will show the teacher which students might need more clarification.
The worksheets after the lesson can be checked as the students are working and when they finish.
