Designis a very old human activity that started when mankindattempted to change their environment for their well being and to
enhance their ability to protect themselves.
Designevolved gradually and reached a very high level of renementin our villages and our traditional societies in the pre-industrial age. This craft based evolution was shaped by the interplay of time and theingenuity of the local craftsmanship and leadership. This created a vastbody of traditional wisdom, that is today still embedded in the rural andvillage life in places such as India.
Designis a product of thought and deliberate action that is composedby intentions and imagination and its effects are rened by explorationsand sensitive judgments.Design is now recognised at a strategic levelas a modern human activity that can help create the components,
artefacts, messages, spaces, ventures, organisations, systems, services, strategies and governance of the future all within the constraintsof our given context. The future is unknowable by any scienticinvestigation but it can be envisaged, visualised and responsibly chosenby us through the use of design visualisation of scenarios and with theapplication of ethical design judgment.
