Dear Michael,
This summer, in addition to writing our own comments, The International Union of Painters and AlliedTrades District Council 81 reached out to our members to write individual public comments to the ColoradoDepartment of Labor Employment about Wage Order coverage and a minimum salary threshold for overtimeexemption. Outreach was done in person, on construction sites across the state and at meetings at our localunion hall. This document serves as a compilation of the written comments that Towards Justice collectedfrom workers.
Attached to this email you will find a cover letter summarizing

A common theme in our collected comments was the concern for health and safety when workers arenot allowed to take breaks. Below are excerpts from comments made by our members. Comments weremade in English and Spanish.
From Jared S. Laird,: “I believe all workers are entitled to a break especially those in the manuallabor industry. Breaks are vital to keeping workers hydrated and nourished to perform at their best withoutrisk of dehydration and heat exhaustion if workers are to work overtime they should be compensated as suchbecause that’s time out of their day and life with their family to provide for the company.”
From Richard Pineda, : “Fatigue wears on everyone. A break is a means to recover and avoid injuriesor mishaps. Going without is sure fire way to ha something go wrong.”
From Chris Medina Individuals that are on salary should get paid what they are worth. Sometimesmore hours are require\d of them, but they make it up in other ways. The do not deserve to get takenadvantage of, but should work to get what they need done.”
From Byron Benegas,: “I would like that there be a law that protected the workers salaries andfurther more that the overtime be paid when we work more than 40 hours a week”
