Since2010Shao-ChiaLüisMusicDirectoroftheTaiwan

NationalSymphonyOrchestra.Hisimaginativeprograming

andhisconductingatthehighestmusicallevelhaveallowed

theorchestratoobtaingreatinternationalrecognition.Their

firsttourtoChinain2012andatourinEurope2013were

greetedeverywherewithenthusiasm.Theirsuccess

continuedduringtheirtoursofNorthAmericain2016and

2019andonceagaininEuropein2013and2017.The

orchestrawillreturntoEuropeinspring2020.From2014–

2017,Shao-ChiaLühasalsobeentheMusicDirectorofthe

SønderjyllandsSymfoniorkesterinDenmark.

Hisdebutasaconcertconductortookplacein1994withtheMunichPhilharmonic.Eversince

hehasconductedregularlymanyleadingEuropeanorchestrassuchastheConcertgebouw

OrchestraAmsterdam,theOrchestraSinfonicadiSantaCeciliaRoma,theOsloPhilharmonic,

theGothenburgSymphonic,theNorwegianandSwedishRadioorchestras,theHelsinki

Philharmonic,theRoyalLiverpoolPhilharmonic,theBournemouthSymphonyOrchestra,the

OrchestreNationaldeFrance,theOrchestreNationald’IledeFrance,theSWRSymphony

Orchestra,theMuseumOrchestraFrankfurt,theDortmundandtheMagdeburgPhilharmonic.

InOctober2011,hereplacedwithgreatsuccessDanieleGattiataperformanceofLeSacredu

printempswiththeConcertgebouwOrchestra.InFebruary2020,hewillgivehisdebutwiththe

OldenburgischesStaatsorchester.

Inrecentyears,Shao-ChiaLühasincreasedhisactivitiesinAsia.HisdebutswiththeChina

Philharmonic,theShanghaiSymphony,theShenzhenSymphonyandtheHongKong

Philharmonicwereallmajorsuccesses.Inthesummerof2017heconductedTristanandIsolde

inBeijing,premieredunderSirSimonRattleattheFestspielhausBaden-Baden,co-produced

withtheMetandOperaBeijing.HealsoperformedwiththeNHKSymphonyOrchestra,the

TokyoMetropolitanandNewJapanPhilharmonicaswellaswiththeSeoulPhilharmonicand

theKBSSymphonyOrchestrainSouthKorea.

In1995,hebeganhisoperacareerasfirstKapellmeisterattheKomischeOperBerlin.Many

guestappearancesfollowed,amongothersattheAustralianOperaSydney,theEnglishNational

Opera,theThéâtredelaMonnaieinBrussels,theNorskeOperainOslo,theGothenburgOpera,

theFrankfurtOpera,StaatsoperHamburg,StaatsoperStuttgartaswellasattheDeutscheOper

Berlin.

In1998,hebecameGeneralMusicDirectorofboththeStaatsorchesterRheinische

PhilharmonieKoblenzandtheKoblenzTheatre.From2001to2006heassumedthepositionof

GeneralMusicDirectorattheStaatsoperHannover.Thecriticshighlypraisedhissensitive,

dramaticandprofoundinterpretationofhismanyoperaproductions.Hisrepertoireincludes

Aida,Otello,Ernani,Turandot,MadamaButterfly,Tosca,LaBohème,LeNozzediFigaro,Fidelio,

Parsifal,DieWalküre,TristanundIsolde,DerfliegendeHolländer,DerRosenkavalier,Elektra,

Salome,KatiaKabanova,Jenufa,VěcMakropoulosandWozzeck.Inthesummerof2004,heand

theensembleoftheStaatsoperHannoverweresingledoutforspecialpraiseforthe

performanceofDebussy’sPelléasandMélisandeintherenownedfestivalsofViennaand

Edinburgh.

TheTaiwan-bornconductorShao-ChiaLüstudiedmusicinTaipei,laterattheIndiana

UniversityinBloomington,USAandalsoattheHochschulefürMusikinVienna.Histraining

wastoppedoffwiththreeimportantfirstprizesatimportantinternationalconductor

competitionsinBesançon,TrentoandAmsterdam.
