Award Program Overview
• Administered by the New York Academy of Sciences and sponsored by Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the Innovators in Science Award was established in 2016.
• This global award recognizes a promising Early-Career Scientist and an outstanding Senior Scientist for their contributions to science in the therapeutic areas of Neuroscience, Gastroenterology, Regenerative Medicine, and Oncology.

• Chosen by an international jury of thought leaders, 2 winners receive $200,000 US each award cycle.
• Celebratory events hosted in New York City or Tokyo.
• Invitation to submit to the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.

• Institutions submit up to two (2) nominations, one (1) Early-Career Scientist and one (1) Senior Scientist.
• Nominations welcome from government, or non-profit institutions or equivalent.
• If your institution is not listed at TakedaInnovators.com, submit a statement of interest at [email protected] for consideration.

Designated nominator submits nominee information and uploads nomination materials: Nominations due June 25, 2018
Letter of Support writers receive instructions automatically via nomination portal
Nomination packages are complete upon receipt of 2 Letters of Support: Letters of Support due July 23, 2018
Individuals in receipt of current or prior research support from Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, or its affiliates, are not eligible for nomination.
Judging and Winner Selection
Quality The extent to which the work is reliable, valid, credible, and scientifically rigorous.
Impact The extent to which the work represents a significant contribution in basic, translational or clinical research that has impacted, or has strong potential to impact, human health through the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease.
Novelty The extent to which the work challenges existing paradigms, employs innovative new methodologies or concepts, and/or pursues an original question.
Promise Senior Scientist - The extent to which the nominee has made impactful research contributions, and future prospects for further significant contributions in the Award field.
Early-Career Scientist - The extent to which the nominee has made innovative research contributions and shows exceptional promise for significant future achievement in the Award field.

Q&A Session
• Our senior candidate has an 81 page CV. Can we submit his 4-page NIH biosketch instead?
The four-page NIH biosketch is acceptable.
• Are funds provided to attend the ceremonies?
Award Winner travel to the Award Ceremony and Symposium is supported through the Innovators in Science Award Program.
• Are all of the "thought leaders" who will be judging the nominations scientists themselves? Do nominations need to be written to be understood by non-scientists?
All of the thought leaders are scientists. The Jury members are selected from research institutions from around the world.
Nomination materials should be written for a scientific audience.

Q&A Session (cont.)
• How should we think about the sub-disciplines? Some research may overlap across many of those disciplines.
Choose the sub-discipline that most closely fits the nominee’s research program. This categorization provides the Academy with information about the distribution of nominee subfields in a given Award cycle. The chosen subfield will not impact final evaluation of the nominee.
• Is the award money sent to the institution to administer on behalf of the awardee?
The Awardee receives the prize money directly.
• Is there a page limit on the 4 full-text publications and/or patents?
There is not a page limit on the full-text publications and/or patents.
