MSCA Individual Fellowships
1. Recruiting a specific researcher into your organisation for 1-2 years
AND / OR
2. Providing a 3-6 month placement for a researcher on a MSCA Fellowship at a Higher
Education Institution (here and abroad)
Partnering with Northern Ireland• Strong track record of successful North-South
partnerships
• N/S Horizon 2020 target €175 million (€80M in FP7)
• Partnerships facilitated by InterTradeIreland, Invest NI and new Northern Ireland Contact Points / EEN• Financial Supports
• Horizon 2020 app – register and post details of your R&D interests
• Research Connections – interactive map of R&D active organisations North and South
Practicalities - 1• Funding
– No match funding required
– Flat rate funding: Fixed amount per researcher
– Don’t need detailed records of expenditure
– Implement the programme as specified, you claim the flat rate
– Decreases reporting requirements and need for audit
• EU Bureaucracy: Let the HEIs coordinate the proposal/consortium– No need for Consortium Agreement
– Yearly reporting requirements but they are “light” compared to other EU funding programmes
– Your NCP/NICP/EEN will provide support
Practicalities - 2• Timescales:
– 5 months from Call close to Results Announcement
– 3 months max after that to sign the Contracts
• Intellectual Property – Researchers must be given enough access to background IP to allow them to carry
out their research (on a royalty free basis)
– Foreground IP resulting from the project remains the property of the organisation that has generated it
– Should not disseminate the project results until a decision on the foreground’s protection has been made
The MC project has to fit with your business plan
