before a child’s baptism if they have not attended one in the past
five years. Sessions are held at 1:15 p.m. on second Sundays of
January, March, May, July, September and November, in the Parish
Activity Center. Baptisms are at 1:15 p.m. on the third Sunday of
each month.

appointment with a priest, in order to begin the sacramental

Gospel Meditation-Encourage Deeper Understanding of the Scripture
“This saying is hard; who can accept it?” The
words of Jesus' disciples in today's Gospel must
sound familiar. At some point in our lives, you and I
have said it about some article of our faith.
Christianity makes firm demands on our ethical
behavior and gives no easy answers for suffering.
Many disciples were confused and dismayed by
Jesus' words in the Bread of Life Discourse. Not all
of them, however, had the same reaction.
When the disciples question Jesus' teaching,
he confirms its truth. “The words I have spoken to
you are spirit and life.” For some, Jesus' reassurance
was not enough. These disciples do not question
Jesus further or wrestle with their lack of
understanding. The mighty deeds Jesus has done
fade to the background. “Many of his disciples
returned to their former way of life and no longer
accompanied him.” For them, their doubt proves too
much.
Jesus turns to the Twelve, knowing that
confusion lives in their hearts as well. Peter
answers. “Master, to whom shall we go? You have
the words of eternal life. We have come to believe
and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”
Notice this is not a confession of perfect
understanding. It is a confession of faith in Jesus.
The precise words may still confuse them, but they
believe the One who said them.
In our own lives, we face doubt, confusion,
and disillusionment in our Christian faith. The same
choice available to the disciples is available to us. Do
you have faith in Jesus, even when you lack perfect
understanding? Will you stay or will you go? What do
you do with your doubt?
The Endowment Fund received $25.00 in
memory of Jim Rhodes.

Are You Ready To Be Transformed? Attend “Salt and Light: A Transformative
Journey into Catholic Social Teaching,” presented by
the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Catholic Social Action
Office. Join us on an adventure into the social
dimension of the Gospel, focusing on how caring for
God’s creation is caring for our brothers and sisters.
We’ll use our experience as an example of how we
can address any real, local issue of poverty or
injustice that calls for a Christian response. Kicking
off with an exploration of Pope Francis and Pope
Benedict XVI’s writings, this series will include an
immersion experience, and opportunities to
transform society by seeing and judging how the
Vatican and U.S. bishops’ statements on the
Church’s social teaching, can lead us to avenues for
action through organized parish social ministry. Five
