We intend to contribute all HP source code changes back into Openstack.org for the projects and scope defined by the OpenStack projects
HP Helion: open source core principles
For customer requirements that are not within scope of current OpenStack projects we either• Work with the community to meet requirements in future OpenStack project releases or• Define a blueprint for new projects or• Implement as value-add capabilities, in a modular way that complies with OpenStack APIs and gives
customers the option to use if desired
We intend our distributions to:• Include all core OpenStack projects• Include other open source if broadly accepted by community• Include relevant HP Software provided as optional, while remaining consistent with core OpenStack
projects, APIs, and architecture
• Support different hardware, hypervisors, operating systems and delivery modelsWe will use similar principles for our Cloud Foundry software efforts

Service Model
Gavin McCance, CERN 8
• Pets are given names like pussinboots.cern.ch • They are unique, lovingly hand raised and cared
for• When they get ill, you nurse them back to health
• Cattle are given numbers like vm0042.cern.ch• They are almost identical to other cattle• When they get ill, you get another one
Future application architectures should use Cattle but Pets with strong configuration management are viable and still needed

Faster application deployment enables accelerated innovationDevelopers First
• Agility is paramount• 30x increase in application releases• “Even when delivering at cadences of
less than a week, 20% of organizations want to go even faster” 1
• Developers need flexibility• “Expects to deploy 50%-70% of code
to cloud environments by 2015”1
• Want open flexible architectures for application portability and prevent lock-in1 Forrester Thought Leader Paper commissioned by HP, “Better outcomes, faster results. Continuous delivery and

Obama: Coding should be taught alongside the ABCs
Barack Obama, the President of the United States, has reiterated the value of ubiquitous STEM education, comparing learning to code to learning the alphabet in terms of its importance to the future of the country.
