Who ever heard about the 10
things?
Who already faced one or more of the
10 things?
Who was driven crazy by them?
Warning!!!
I may speak too fast....
There are no simple solutions for complex problems...
How I collected the 10 things...
Scrum But(t)
They drove
me crazy
I collected them, wrote them down and created a blog article out of it...
What I found out...
The 10 things that drive your ScrumMaster crazy and their possible causes
No. 1Keep doing tasks that are not
part of the sprint backlog.
Disturbances from outside of the team...
„We always did it this way...“
No. 2Hide your impediments. They
will for sure vanish on their own.
The lone wolf...
The ScrumMaster is incapable...
No. 3Don’t talk to the PO during the
sprint. Never.
PO is not available...
Not used to...
No. 4Ignore the definition of DONE when finishing your tasks and
backlog items.
No one checks it...
This is your DoD!
No. 5Stand in front of the sprint backlog and say
“I’ve nothing to do” or “None of the tasks are for me” (even better if 90% of the tasks are
still open).
Fear to learn something new...
Snugness...
No. 6Prepare for the Sprint Review
5 minutes before it starts.
Lazyness...
Last minute changes...
NOT
No. 7Don’t split your tasks into smaller ones even if you know they will
take the whole sprint.
„This task is not splittable...“
Don‘t want to be tracked...
No. 8Be late, always.
Notorious late comers...
„The meeting doesn‘t matter to me...“
No. 9Ask the ScrumMaster continuously
which task you should do next.
Used to push instead of pull...
Missing self confidence...
No. 10Disturb any scrum meeting by
starting multiple additional discussions on different topics or
phoning somebody.
Not focused/involved...
In the end everything comes down to the four evil root causes from hell!
FearFace your fear to get stronger as you thought you could be.
What can we do about it?
Teach them...
How to kick off your new Scrum team...?
Kick them out of their comfort zone....
FearFace your fear to get stronger as you thought you could be.
Step out of your comfort zone...
Involve them...
Pull don‘t sleep...
„I‘ve been with this company long before you were born..“
Get their commitment...
Rotate moderator role...
Use Avatars...
Involve them...
Intrinsic motivation is the key...
Apathy is like cancer...
Build a product vision
Interview the team members...
Invite for a workshop...
Try 20% time...
Still somebody left...?
These are the team members who really want to drive you crazy...
What can we do about them?
Fight!
Questions...?
Thanks for your attention
