The free ubcvisitor/ubcsecure wireless network is available for use in the bedroom, Commonsblock and around campus.

VSP Student Room Assignment
No room changes are permitted upon arrival. In an emergency, we will need to know where to find you. You are responsible for any damages to your assigned room. Email [email protected] if you have any questions.
Housekeeping Service
Bed is made upon arrival, a bath towel and face cloth are provided. Coffee and tea upon arrival only. The kitchen, common lounge and bathroom are cleaned WEEKLY (Toilet paper is replenished as necessary). Guests are responsible for additional supplies needed. Students will be responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms, bed linens and towels.
There is a Mid-stay Linen Exchange, where you can bring your bed sheets, pillow case and towels (duvets & mattress pads are not included) and exchange for a new clean set. Opening hours & specific location for the Linen Exchange Room will be posted in the Lobby.
Please keep all your belongings in the provided closet, drawers or dresser. Keep valuables inside your suitcases and lock it. Do not keep your belongings in plastic bags near the garbage bin as they may be disposed of by mistake.
You will be responsible for paying a labour charge for all extraordinary cleaning services that are required in relation to the cleaning of your guest room and common areas. Such labour charges will be charged to you directly at $35/hour per UBC employee for a minimum of 1 hour.
Laundry
Laundry machines are located in the basement of each Tower. The laundry ma-chines are operated by Laundry cards that can be purchased for $5.00 (non-re-fundable) from the Coinamatic machine in the Lobby. The Laundry card will have a $0.00 balance. Load the Laundry card using the Coinamatic machine by cash, credit or bank card. Balances remaining on Laundry cards & the Laundry card fee of $5.00 cannot be refunded.
If possible, group members may wish to share cards to minimize the amount of bal-ances left on cards. Single load laundry soap ($1.00) is available at the Front Desk.Please consider the environment and recycle your card, by returning it to the Front Desk at the end of your stay.
HOUSING TIPS (DO’S & DON’TS)
Do not hang anything from the fire sprinkler. You will be held financially responsible for dam-ages caused by accidentally trig-gering the sprinkler.
Quiet Hours from 9pm - 9am. Please respect your neighbours.
Always lock your door. Keep the community safe by always locking your doors and windows when you are away and while asleep. Do not let strangers into the building or your room.
Keep your room key with you at all times. Immediately inform the Front Desk if you lose your key, charges apply for lost & misplaced keys.
Do not trigger a false fire alarm. This is subject to a $200 fine and/or eviction plus the repairs for any related damages. False fire alarms are triggered when residents burn their food and then open their unit door into the hallway to “air out” their unit. Open the windows in your unit to clear the smoke.
Turn off all appliances and lights when not in use.
Do not leave the stove or microwave unattended.
Do not put food or grease down the sink.
IMPORTANT: All rooms are non-smoking. The fine is $500 for smoking in the room, balconies and common areas for each in-cident. To smoke, you need to exit the building and be at least 6 meters away from the building.

Keep the shower curtain tucked in while bathing and after bath-ing to prevent flooding of the bathroom floor.
Housekeeping staff tidy common areas, but only the basics. You and your neigh-bours are all responsible for keeping these areas clean and tidy. Leaving a large mess may result in your apartment being charged for the cleanup.

STAY SAFE
Don’t let strangers in; beware tailgaters.Supervise children at all times.Ensure children lock bedroom doors.Keep doors locked.Ensure doors are never propped open.
• Always ensure your luggage is locked and secured when you are away from your room
• Remember to lock your bedroom door when you leave (this includes going to class, the bathroom, kitchen or other common living areas), and ensure your key is with you at ALL times
• Do not let strangers in• Make sure to close and lock the main door when entering and exiting
How To:
Report a TheftReport the theft to the Front Desk immediately. The Front Desk may advise you to fill out a report with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Replace a Lost / Misplaced KeyGo to the Front Desk if you require a new or temporary key to access your room. They will be able to issue you a new key. Charges will apply (Lost/mis-placed key card $5; Lost/misplaced hard key $105).
Safety Deposit Boxes
There are a limited number of Safety Deposit Boxes available at the Front Desk, availability is not guaranteed. Please do not to bring too much cash or valuable items. Access to the Safety deposit box is only available during certain hours.
Lost & Found
Front Desk maintains a comprehensive Lost and Found system. Items are kept up to 48 hours. The Front Desk reserves the right to dispose of items due to poor condition (i.e. soiled clothing, perishable items, medications, loose pa-pers with no identifying information, and items deemed unhygienic). Unclaimed items are disposed of or donated to charity.
Once items are considered expired, information about those items and the items themselves will not be accessible.
EXPECTATIONS OF CONDUCT
VSP participants will become a part of the vibrant UBC community on campus during the summer. As a part of the community, participants are responsible for maintaining the mutually respectful and civil environment at UBC where oppor-tunity, diversity and inclusion are valued. VSP participants are expected to be re-spectful and considerate towards each other, UBC personnel, and members of the public. Canadian federal, provincial and local government laws apply to all students. For example, laws prohibit the consumption of alcohol if under 19 years of age and prohibit the possession of illicit drugs and possession of illegal weapons.
In the residences, the following is prohibited:1. Noise that may disturb others. No loud parties. Quiet hours in the residences
are from 9pm through to 9am.2. Discarding objects from windows. Objects thrown from above can cause
serious injuries. This is subject to eviction and further actions if someone is hurt. Students are responsible for what falls out of their windows or off their balconies.
3. Smoking inside or on the balconies of any building. This is subject to a $500 fine. Smoking is permissible only when outside AND 6 meters away from a building.
4. Climbing on rooftops or walkway covers.5. Overloading or dangerous behaviour in an elevator. This is subject to a $200
fine and/or eviction plus the cost of repairs to the elevator.6. False fire alarm pulls and tampering with fire equipment including sprinklers.

7. Lending your key card or hard key(s) to someone else. Don’t give access to anyone! You are responsible for one another’s safety and security. All exteri-or doors are kept closed and locked at all times. No propping open of doors. Lost keys and key cards are subject to replacement fees.
In the event of a fire alarm, everyone must vacate the building. No one is to re-enter until the attending fire personnel have investigated the cause and give permission to re-enter. Each residence has a Front Desk. When in the residence, participants are to report all accidents, breakages, trespassers, and injuries to the Front Desk as soon as pos-sible. During class time, participants are to report to their Faculty coordinator as soon as possible. If there is a breach in these expectations, UBC personnel will discuss the issue(s) with the participant(s). In the event of a continuous breach of the rules and or guidelines laid out by the instructors, or in the event a participant’s conduct jeop-ardizes the safety of the instructors, other participants, the public, or themselves, arrangements will be made to send the student home at the expense of the partic-ipant and parent/guardian.
