UNDERSTANDING THE WORD
First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. …Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the Lord.
Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6
...The Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.”

The inner word: What’s in Your Heart? Today’s Focus: Searching and Stretching
Whether it was Isaiah’s listeners wondering where God’s light was, or the magi following a star to an unex-pected place, or us trying to broaden our understanding of God’s mysteries, we know that God illumines the way.
Why do I pray? Am I open to being stretched by the light of Christ?
To whom or what do I have difficulty showing honor and mutual respect? Where is it hard to see the light of Christ?

The day begins with the rosary at 11:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Larry J. Kulick at noon, exposition will be at 1 p.m. , and the afternoon will include the rosary and other prayers with Benediction at 4 p.m. Participate in the whole day or any part of it. **************** Living Out Christmas in the New Year: The Blessed Virgin Mary’s open heart and courageous “yes” to God show us how to live year-round with hearts open to the Lord, following where He leads. Like Our Blessed Mother, who welcomed Jesus, we are called to cherish and protect the gift of human life, at every stage and in every circumstance. One way to live out the message of Christmas is to join 9 Days for Life, a digital pilgrimage of prayer Jan. 18 –26. Join today at www.9daysforlife.com
