n The Carpenter’s Gift, Henry helps decorate the very first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. He folds a piece of newspaper into a star and adds his ornament to the
garlands and shiny tin cans that his new friends hang on the tree’s branches.
You can use this pattern to create your own version of Henry’s star and even use the same Dec. 24, 1931, New York Times front page.
1. Print out these four pages.
2. Lay Star Side 1 over Newspaper 1.
3. Cut along the solid lines that form the outline of the star. Be sure to ask a grown-up for help.
4. Do the same with Star 2 and Newspaper 2.
5. Fold both sides of your star as directed, along the mountain and valley folds.
6. Now it’s time to assemble your star. Tuck all of the tabs that say “glue/tape” and glue the tabs of the two sides together to make the star whole or tape along all of the edges.
7. Punch a hole in the top of the star and use thread or ribbon to hang your star from a special branch on your Christmas tree. GLUE or TAPE
