Healing at Hand
GGrreeeettiinnggss ttoo AAllll !
We are at the doorway for new beginnings. In order for this new
year to be fruitful and blessed delve a bit deeper within oneself and
allow that unlimited fountain of empathy and kindness to spring
forth, allowing one to serve in a non-judgemental way that will
result in encompassing harmony and happiness.
In our human evolution it is inevitable that we continue to develop
and expand, hence let this amazing growth quietly at work be
directed with compassion and generosity towards others–not only
our dear and near ones but also to spread it as far and wide as
possible. Some priceless observations are: coaxing the sad one into
smiling; providing food to the hungry; instil hope for the
downtrodden; cheering up the depressed one; a kind word at a time
of difficulty; and bringing relief to the sufferer.
Take a look around. Become observant to the needs of others.
Experiment with being quiet for a day. What do you notice? We
find that in silence we become more aware of not only what
happens within, but also a greater awareness what is happening
without. Learning through silence is a precious experience. A
Chinese proverb informs us, “Knowing when to be silent is like
holding gold”. Another German one says, “Silence is a fence
around wisdom”. Time to tap into that insight!
One of my most favourite words in the English language is
‘serendipity’. Not only because the word has a positive quality to it,
but perhaps because within it is contained another word, ’serenity’.
It’s being in a state of calm, peace and bliss through a happy
accident. It is said that serendipity is the occurrence and
development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way; or
making a pleasant discovery by chance. Mmmm? I would rather
consider a much greater force at work, than chance!
On another positive note, every monthly newsletter for this year
will include a real-life kindness story – something that may
motivate us to count our blessings every day, and in return do an act
of kindness onto another!
May this year bring forth many serendipitous experiences.

Kindness Story #1
A 15-year blessing from a homeless person
This is a story that happened 15 years ago but it has always stayed with me since then.
On the way back from work every evening, more often than not there would be a homeless man standing at the
exit of the freeway. He looked to be in his late 40's but was probably a lot younger. He had shoulder length
straight black hair a short beard, and he was of average stature.
His eyes were what struck me the most about him, they were brown and they had a sparkle. Like an inside light
that was beaming out of his eyes. His eyes, I thought, represented the man in general. People say they can tell a
lot from a person’s eyes. It was certainly true in his case. He always waved at every car, he was always happy
and smiling and sometimes almost dancing.
Every day after work I would remember to gather any spare change, and put it aside to give to him if I saw him.
A feeling of joy would come over me every time I saw him, as I came off the ramp. He had that effect.
I’d quickly roll down my window and give him the coins. Occasionally the red light would be on for a minute and
we would ask each other about our day. His answer would always be the same, “I’m blessed!”
I knew what his answer was going to be every time, yet I would still ask. It amazed me that even in his situation
of being homeless he was so positive, and his answer would remind me of how blessed I was. A single mother of
four amazing kids, with a place to call home and with a job to provide for my kids.
Then one day I was called into my boss’s office and was told that I was being laid off due to the economy. A
feeling of worry engulfed me, and for the rest of that day all I could think of was “how am I going to provide for
my kids, how am I going to pay rent, what am I going to do?”
Needless to say that on my way home that day I was very sad and upset. I didn’t remember to look for my spare
change and keep it ready like I usually did. I wasn’t feeling the joy as I got off the ramp where the homeless man
would be. Yet there he was as always, as I turned the ramp. He set his eyes on me, while still smiling and waving
at others.
I’d hoped to catch the green light, but I missed it. While I was waiting for the red light to turn, he strolled over to
my car. He had a big smile he looked me straight in the eyes and said “today I will give you a dollar”. He then
reached into his pocket and pulled out a dollar bill. I was blown away. I burst into tears. I wanted to jump out of
my car and hug him!
You see that day he gave me more than a dollar bill, he taught me a valuable lesson. No matter what material
things are taken from you, no one can take away your choice to be joyful. My ride home was smooth sailing, I
had lost my job, had no savings, but I knew I was blessed!
Every time I’m faced with challenges, I think of the homeless man’s valuable lesson and remember that I am
blessed.

Start your day with Water and Lemon
by Dr. David Jockers Clean water and fresh squeezed lemon is one of the most well tested energy boosters around. Most people in
America rely on caffeinated beverages like coffee to get aroused in the morning. These adrenal stimulants produce
dirty energy in the form of blood sugar swings and oxidative stress. Water with lemon produces clean energy by
hydrating and oxygenating the body to extraordinary energy and mental clarity.
After sleeping through the night the bodily tissues are dehydrated and need clean, pure water to filter out toxins and
improve energy production in the cells. Most individuals turn to stimulants like coffee in the morning to give them a
jump start. Unfortunately, coffee is a diuretic that depletes your body of water reserves and essential minerals and
electrolytes like sodium, potassium, calcium & magnesium.
People feel energized by coffee due to the effects of caffeine on the adrenal glands. Coffee stimulates these organs
to pump out instant energy hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine. These hormones stimulate the body to
breakdown stored sugar and release it into the bloodstream. This process causes abnormal blood sugar that
increases oxidative stress, free radical formation and overall tissue damage.
This is called dirty energy because it produces a rampant amount of damage to the body in order to activate energy
formation. Clean energy produces cellular energy without an excessive load of oxidative stress.
Food as Bioelectrical Energy
The food and beverages we eat provide electrically charged molecules that initiate energy production in our body. An
ion is part of a molecule that carries an electrical charge. Positively charged ions are called "cations," while negatively
charged ions are called "anions."
Most of the food we put into our bodies comes in a cationic form, while our natural digestive processes (hydrochloric
acid, digestive enzymes, saliva) are anionic. Lemon is one of the only anionic foods on the planet. This means that it
carries a very strong negative charge and is extremely electrically active.
Fresh lemon helps oxygenate the body and maximizes enzyme function.
Lemon is known to stimulate the liver's natural enzymes. This assists the liver in the
process of dumping toxins like uric acid and of liquefying congested bile ducts.
Citric Acid Cleanses the System
Citric acid can also play a very important role in chelating out abnormal calcium stones. It has a unique ability to form
soluble complexes with calcium that many have used to eliminate pancreatic stones and kidney stones. This
mechanism can also help prevent calcium deposits from building up in the arteries that promote cardiovascular
disease.
Clean water with lemon provides the body with hydration, anti-oxidants and electrolytes. Lemon is a rich source of
the immune boosting vitamin C. It also has good quantities of electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and
magnesium. Lemon is a tremendous source of citrus bioflavonoid anti-oxidant phytonutrients that have been given
the label Vitamin P.
Vitamin P consists of the flavonoid glycosides hesperetin and naringenin among others. Studies have shown that
vitamin P enhances the anti-oxidant capability of vitamin C. These bioflavonoids also improve capillary permeability
and overall blood flow. This is especially important for oxygenating tissues and maintaining normal blood pressure.
These anti-oxidants have also been shown to reduce swelling, venous backup and edema.
Upon rising take 1 full lemon and squeeze it into 16-32 oz of fresh clean water and drink. Be sure to eat out the
membranous parts of the lemon where the majority of the pectin fibre and citrus bioflavonoids are located. Stevia
can be added to form sugar-free lemonade. Apple cider vinegar and various herbs can be used to boost enzymatic

5 Reasons Why Meditation Beats an iPhone

People buy iPhones to be universally connected and have a ton of cool functions and features at their fingertips. But as Rev. Heng Sure once said, everything we create in silicon already exists in carbon. I’d add that the silicon technology is a poor facsimile at best.
So how exactly do you tap into the wonderful carbon technology you carry around with you all the time? Meditation is a phenomenal tool to do just that. Here are five areas where meditation beats an iPhone. 1. Connectivity The truth is that you can’t really connect to anyone else unless you’re in touch with yourself. The iPhone allows and encourages you to be marginally present when physically absent, and marginally absent when physically present. Meditation gets you back in touch with yourself and helps you be present. Period. Sometimes meditators are so present, they’re even present when absent! And that makes their ability to connect way beyond what the iPhone allows! 2. Social Networking Let’s face it: Twitter is often mostly random bits of irrelevant thought that you cursorily follow from people you don’t always know. That Facebook’s popularity about its magic, as 400+ million people compete for collecting more friends and appearing to have the most fun while waiting for the next ‘serendipitous’ connection. Behind their popularity is the myth that quantity makes up for quality. How many of your Facebook friends could you call in a jam at 3am? How many tweets will you ponder longer than a 160 character attention-span? The truth is that quality is what counts, and meditation eases the disease of a random mind to add increased quality and relevance to ‘mental tweets’. Random thoughts get slowly recycled into the mental soil, fertilizing the thoughts worth nurturing as attention stabilizes and intensifies. The growing relief felt from all the chaos sloshing around in your head starts building sympathy for other people’s struggles. You yourself start becoming a person willing to dash to the rescue at 3am, or just helping to make people around you a little bit happier, and that starts earning you deeper friends willing to respond in kind. Suddenly you’re having real fun wherever you are, with no time left to tweet about it, snap pictures for Facebook, or passively stalk other people’s lives. Birds of a feather flock together, so you’re soon surrounded by like-minded people, paving the path for serendipitous connections that give you goosebumps in ways that connecting to your 2nd-grade-best-friend on Facebook never can. 3. Features and Functionality Is the iPhone’s 2-megapixel camera not enough for you? How about the 324-megapixel equivalent (http://tiny.cc/tyfsk) of the human eye? Not enough storage on your iPhone for those kinds of pictures? Nobody knows a good way to calculate the storage of the human brain, but credible guesses (http://tiny.cc/tajdh) say it can hold 1 to 1000 terabytes of information. Can’t remember that much, you say? Meditation improves memory (http://tiny.cc/3bbmz), reverses memory loss, and delays or prevents Alzheimer’s and dementia. How about GPS? Meditation really grounds you and helps you figure out where you’re at and where you’re headed. What about apps and games? Meditation starts unlocking the games you play best and opening you up to more productive applications. 4. Environment When 3G turns to 4G or 6F or whatever is next, your smart iPhone gets closer to becoming e-waste, full of toxic chemicals (http://tiny.cc/ypxnm) that California consider to be hazardous waste. Be sure to recycle (http://tiny.cc/elosf) it when you’re done playing, and remind the other kids to do so too. Meanwhile, meditation doesn’t add to your footprint on the planet, but might just soften it. There isn’t much research on this, but a lot of anecdotal evidence that shows that you’ll start feeling the need for fewer material things. And that’s great for the planet! 5. Cost After all your fancy data plans and minutes, you can spend $5 or more a day on your iPhone. Meditation is free, barring what you pay to learn or attend a course. If you decide to try Vipassana, (http://www.dhamma.org/) a past student who benefited will pay for your course! And if you’re serious about practicing, meditation starts paying you, as all of that focus makes you more productive, creative, insightful, and energetic. I’d call that a fantastic investment in any economic climate. In short, meditation is an unparalleled technology that surpasses the iPhone by leaps and bounds. In fairness, any technology simply amplifies the will you place behind it, and it’s possible to use things like iPhone, Twitter, and Facebook while minimizing their downsides just like it’s possible to misuse meditation. Yet playing with our silicon technology seems to have a much more slippery slope than figuring out our carbon technology, and that will keep me away from iPhones for a while.

Bowen Therapy Case Study
Today was the second visit for a young man who had come to me seeking help: he was depressed, nauseous, house bound and had been for the past 3 months. As he nervously walked through the door one week previously he was pale, stony faced, looking down cast and lacking any spark of vitality. His grandmother had phone me to see if the Bowen Technique could offer any solutions for her deeply traumatized grandson. She explained he had been severely bashed on New Year’s Eve and had been unable to cope ever since. To begin, I explained to him about the Bowen technique and how it could help his body to recover. I knew this case would draw on all my observational and tissue tension sense skills, as he was obviously still in deep shock. I noted an uneven tension throughout his lower back and a distinct leg length discrepancy. The upper back was also obviously uneven, with an extremely tight and raised left scapula and upper trapezius. As he turned supine to the complete the Neck procedure, I quietly explained this unevenness indicated to me that his body had been misaligned for many years. He agreed as he noted that his uneven leg length had been a problem, even when he was a toddler. As the treatment concluded I suggested he should ask his mother about his birth and maybe go for a swim in his backyard swimming pool to get the “rivers of energy” flowing again. By good fortune his mother came to collect her son, so I enquired about his birth. “Oh yes, I remember it well” she said. “I was given Pethidine after I had exhausted myself pushing and when Trent finally emerged, he was completely drugged. For the next 4 days the nurses had to slap his cheeks to wake him so he would feed”. There was the CLUE! A spark of comprehension lit Trent’s eyes. No wonder he had been so deeply affected by the New Year’s eve bashing (which was predominantly round his face and head). It had catapulted him right back to his very unpleasant birth experience. Now, today, just one week later, a smiling completely relieved young man, strode up the path. “I haven’t been swimming, I was too cold, but I’ve been walking my Staffy dog every day.” Today I intend to complete the balance for Trent’s body by using the Pelvic procedure with the pelvic exercise and a follow-up Pelvic procedure next week.
