Cool Cousins: Southern Elephant Seals
Theyre way cooler because they can survive in colder environmentshave deeper, longer dives. Southern elephant seals dive to over 2,10meters, the deepest dive our lab has on record...so far.[Southerns] are foraging on the ice edge, and could be using it to findprey. They forage on shelf waters on the Peninsula. Thats interestingbecause traditionally theyve been thought of as active in the deep ocfood web, but they may also have a impact on an entirely different, cofood web.READ ON: http://www.topp.org/features/cool_cousins
