Play Note: Te Combat strength or many Units is the same onboth their ull and reduced strength sides. I a player has one o eachtype in a Battle, add 1 to the Forces FP.
Design Note: Te minimal dierence in FP between Units at ulland reduced strength reects the use o Unit reserves, discipline, and cohesion. Te step loss represents more a loss o cohesion ratherthan a loss o men. Being returned to Regroup does not mean allthe soldiers have been killed, but that the Unit has lost its cohesionand needs to be reorganized.

6.0 SUPPLY And controLDesign Note: We have modeled the logistics in the game with some random-ness to capture varied actors in an abstract sense, such as weather, localroad conditions, low level raiding, and, simply put, bad management othe supply lines and bases. Like any good strategist, you are always going tobe concerned with your supply lines, but the supply line test in the gamehappens in an uncertain way to generate sucient tension without makingthe game-play so calculating. You can push your Forces urther rom thebase o operations, perhaps to exploit an enemy weakness, but in this game
you cant rely on a specied timing o the Supply Event. Instead, a playercould see a Force sitting beyond its limit or recently cut o and play a cardto attempt to trigger the Supply Eventthis makes the strategy card with

11.0 BAttLEDesign Note: Te Battle rules attempt to reect several actors prominenin the Mexican War. First o all, many o the Battles during the War werenot decisive tactically and resulted in low levels o casualties. Te Americanhad clear advantages, reected in certain Battle card events. Te Mexicanartillery was less than eective because o bad powder and out-dated doc
trine. Leadership was a major actor avoring the United States, with thAmericans getting the tactical ratings advantage and the special Ocecards. Te repower is roughly the Force size, except that players can augment repower with the commitment rules, and the Mexican player wilnot get as much as he wants rom the Activa Militia. Players will discovethat their Forces display resiliency in Battle at rst, but once the step lossesmount, a Force will collapse quickly.

prominence o a Force and reductions in maneuverability. Te design doesnot orce players to build armies. However, the Political Willbenet and extra repower make them attractive even i theyare a double-edged sword oering a lower movement rate andthe possibility o PW loss i you lose in battle.

Design Note: Te raiding rules simulate the act that the politically prominent raids were not very requent, and that there were limited resourceand windows o opportunity or raiding especially given the abstracted timescale or the play o an OPS card. Limiting the raids allowed to 6 totalbetween the two players alters the attractiveness o raid attempts as a urn
proceeds (simulating weather problems, local command paralysis, shitingsentiments o raiders, etc.). Tis also limits Raid Political Will Points toa maximum o 3 Political Will Points i only one side raids successully.
