It gives us a great pleasure to extend warmest congratulations to all of you to study at
Yeungnam, and to develop and design your bright future with us.
Since its foundation, Yeungnam University has enhanced a reputation as a prestigious
university, with 150,000 graduates who have been playing an important role domestically
and internationally. Geared with its tremendous potentiality originated from its history and
tradition, Yeungnam University is regenerating itself through the Reinventing Yeungnam
project along with a new resolution.

Where is Yeungnam?
Located in the city of Gyeongsan in the south-eastern part of the Korean Peninsula, Yeungnam is
surr ounded by scenic nature and historic relics. The city is adjacent to the Daegu metr opolis, the
3rd largest city in Korea, and it takes one and a half hours from Seoul, Capital of Korea by train, and
one hour from Busan, the 2 nd largest city in Korea. W ith a population of approximately 250, 00 0,
the city offers a perfect mixture of urban and rural environments.

Yeungnam University (YU) has two campuses; Gyeongsan Campus is the main one located on
900 scenic acres, and Daegu Campus with the University Medical Center is located in
Daemyung-dong in the city of Daegu.
Currently, there are 13 colleges, one (1) evening program, four (4) independent schools, one (1)
graduate school and eight (8) professional graduate schools. YU consists of 22,000
undergraduate students, 3,000 graduate students, and 1,000 faculty members and staff with
fine facilities and academic organizations. The university library has over 1,200,000 volumes,
and the university museum holds the distinction of being namedBest Cultural Facility'. There
are also 11 auxiliary organizations including the Center for International Programs, the
Foreign Language Institute, and 38 academic research institutes .

scholarshipAll of undergraduate international students are eligible to be beneficiaries of Yeungnam
University International Student Scholarship for the 1st semester of entry and depending onthe GPA in the each last semester. The criteria of international students awarding
scholarship are as follows:
GPA 4.0 or above on a scale of 0.00 to 4.5 : 70% waiver of the tuition
GPA between 2.5 and under 4.0 on a scale of 0.00 to 4.5 : 50% waiver of the tuition
GPA between 2.0 and under on a scale of 0.00 to 4.5 : 30% waiver of the tuition
*These criteria will be valid from the fall semester of academic year of 2008.

pick-up serviceThe Center for International Programs(CIP), Yeungnam University offers a pick-up service to
all the international students. International students should submit a written notification at
least two (2) weeks prior to arrival. The service is available only between Daegu Airport and
Yeungnam University. For more information, contact the CIP (phone : 810-1624/1630/1629)
reporting arrival & departureThe next working day after arrival at Yeungnam University, the international students must
report to the Center for International Programs (CIP) for the information on immigration and
campus rules. And all the international students should report to the CIP when returning to
his or her country after finishing the study at Yeungnam at least three (3) weeks before in

An alternative to accommodation on campus is a studio apartment type located near
campus. One-room or two-room apartments are available.

for the students.
- Three (3) student cafeterias on campus are serving for the students from 07:00 to 19:00.
- Several convenient st ores are available from 08 :00 to 2 4:0 0.
- In the Multi-complex W elfare Building, there are bookstore, fast food rest aurants on the 1st
floor, stationery, travel agent, florist, sport goods shop, opticians and convenient store on the
2nd floor, and barbershop, beauty shop and coffee shop on the 3rd floor.
Health Service Center
Treatment Schedule
The center provides excellent health care service for student, faculty and staff, and is affiliated
with Yeungnam University Medical Center at Daemyung-dong Campus in Daegu. It works
specifically for prevention, early detection and first-aid treatment as well as for the
improvement of public health on campus. It regularly conducts physical check-ups for
students, immunizations, hygienic and health consultation. It is located on the 1st floor of the
Student Support Center Building. The working hour is 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

The university offers shuttle buses for the students on the campus, and between the
campus and the subway stations during the weekdays. The fare is free of charge.
- on-campus shuttle buses run from 08:30 AM to 5:50 PM.
- shuttle buses between the subway stations (near campus) and the campus run almost every ten
minutes, from 06:50 AM to 10:40 PM.
* getting downtown of Daegu
- by public buses : There are several buses #6 09 , 5 09 , 6 49 , 8 40 going downtown of Daegu. The
bus station is just across from the main gate of the university.
- by subway : The university shuttle buses take you to the Sawol Station or Banyawol Station. The
destination for downtown of Daegu is Banwoldang Station.

on-campus housingAccommodation services of the university aim to foster an excellent quality residential life in
the academic environments providing the residents with comfort and convenience. The
accommodation is designed to embrace various needs of the students. All campus facilities
are in walking distance from the residence halls, and the residents can build their academic
and personal competences by fully utilizing the accommodation at the university.
All of the residents should join the meal plan of the dormitory cafeteria, and all theinternational students will be eligible to apply for on-campus accommodation unless the
applicants possess any epidemic disease or any other diseases which could be harmful to
public health and safety. Returning students will be eligible to apply for on-campus housing
unless they are on a bad status in the dormitory in the past.

Anniversary, December 22 every year.
The Yeungnam University libraries are comprised of the Main Library and two branch
libraries, the Science Library and the Medical Library. The libraries provide state-of-the-art
services for all clientele, and containing over 1,500,000 academic and non-academic

One-Stop Service Center LibrariesThe One-stop Service Center is offering various kinds of services to the students such as
certificate issuance service, lost & found service, fax service, etc. located in the Student
Support Center Building. Its office hour is from 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday during the
semesters, and from 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday during the vacations. The center is

opening bank accounts
All of the Yeungnam University students are asked to open bank accounts of Daegu Bank of
Yeungnam University Branch. Student ID cards are used as ATM cards. Please bring a
passport, one (1) photo and an alien registration card which is issued by the DaeguImmigration Office after your arrival at Yeungnam University to the bank. Daegu Bank is
located on the 1st floor in the Multi-Complex Welfare Building. ATMs on-campus and off-
campus are available from 09:00 to 24:00 every day for the whole year. Banks in Korea are
closed on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
student ID cardPlease visit the One-stop Service Center or Daegu Bank on campus, and fill out the
application form for issuance of a Student ID card, and submit the form with your Alien
Registration Card to the bank. Student ID cards are issued by the center two (2) weeks later.
Students can enter the libraries, loan the books from the libraries, and draw money from
ATM (Automated Teller Machine) with this ID card.

All of the international students are strongly recommended to purchase medical insurance

Post Office
For the postal service, please visit the post office located on the 1st floor in the Amphitheater.
Its working hour is from 09:00 to 17:00 during the weekdays.

cultural sites
The beauty of the YU Museum comes from its ideal location on the northern part of the
campus, while YU sits in the very center of the Confucian-Buddhist cultural areas connecting
Andong, Gyeongju, Haein Temple, and many other important cultural sites. Andong, which isonly one and a half hours by car from the YU campus, is famous for presenting a
panographic view of the ancient culture of Korea, especially that of the Lee Dynasty and
Confucianism. Hahoe Village will give visitors insights on Korean as well as Asian culture.
After spending a little time in the village, people will find themselves in love with food,
customs and traditions of Korea. An investment of less than an hour to the East Coast takes
one to the beautiful ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty, Gyeongju. And to the west, Haein
Temple is the repository of more than 81,000 movable wooden printing blocks, the Tripitaka
Koreana, which containg the complete Buddhist Scriptures.

a. Arriving at Incheon International Airport near Seoul, Capital of Korea, and taking a
domestic airline from Incheon to Daegu International Airport
b. Arriving at Incheon International Airport, taking a shuttle bus to Seoul Station (one
hour drive from the airport to the station) and taking the KTX (Korean Train
Express) to Dong Daegu Station (one hour and forty minutes from the station to
the station)
c. Arriving at Daegu International Airport directly from your home country such as
Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenyang, Hong Kong in China, Manila in Phillippines,
Bangkok in Thailand
d. Arriving at Gimhae International Airport near Busan, 2nd largest city in Korea,
taking a taxi to Gupo Train Station (10 minutes from the airport to the station),
and taking a train to Gyeongsan Train Station (maximum one (1) hour from the
station to the station)
* After arriving at Daegu International Airport, it takes 25 minutes from the airport to the
university by taxi.* After arriving at Dong Daegu Station, it takes 30 minutes from the station to the university
