• Learn about fixed versus growth mindset

• Learn how to praise and give feedback to students to improve student motivation and achievement

• Learn about classroom strategies and available resources that promote growth mindset in the classroom

CAVEAT

• “Praising effort alone is useless when the child is getting everything wrong and not making progress. Either students will feel misled when they are eventually confronted with the reality of their low achievement, or the hollow praise will convey adults’ low expectations for them.”

• Instead praise process and tie that to the outcome

• Telling students to try harder when they don’t have the skills or strategies to be successful. Effort is only one factor.

• Instead provide meaningful feedback about what the student has done, current understanding and next steps

• Talking growth mindset lip service.

• Have to really believe and mean it. It’s a process and a journey to develop a growth mindset.
