YP Mission Statement:
The Greater Mankato Young Professionals are a group of energetic business and community leaders (ages 21 – 40) who are focused on the promotion, retention, and support of Young Professionals in the Greater Mankato Area through networking, professional development, and civic opportunities.
First started in 2008 as a Talent Retention tool to help employers maintain young talent by helping the make connections and grow as a professional.
Developed by Greater Mankato Growth staff and key young professionals from a variety of members. Strong support from employers during start-up.
Programming currently includes- Professional Development Events- Social Events- Mentor Program (2x year)- Volunteer Opportunities- Additional opportunities to attend GMG events at no charge such as
the Annual Meeting
Origin of the program
• $300/year ($25/month)• Higher level members receive credits toward the fee• Generally paid by employers• Includes admission to all YP events• Events include items such as: programming, tickets,
refreshments/meals, admission fees, transportation• Currently 208 members • Some events are open to guests• Some events are sponsored by members-$350 or in-kind refreshments

Mentor Program
Structure:• 4 Mentors • 4 Teams of 8 YPs (32 total)• 11:30-1:00 pm• Meet at the Mentor’s business (sometimes a tour at the end)
• Mentor usually provides lunch• Meet once a month for four months• Teams rotate between mentors each month• Teams are led by a Team Captain, who communicates with
both the mentor and the team about logistics, etc.

• Designed by two members of the YP Professional Deveopment Committee
• Arose out of the need for YPs to access community leaders without having to commit to all of the dates for the 4-month Mentor Program
• Also a lesser commitment for the mentors
• 1.5-hour sessions held during one week in July at Bethany Lutheran College
