Brief Introduction to Qianmen Jianguo HotelBeijing Qianmen Jianguo Hotel, opened in 1956, is one of the eight famous hotels in Beijing. 2. Some sections are narrow
History of the Great Wall of China:The history of these extraordinary fortifications goes back to the Chunqiu period (722-481 B.C.) and to the Warring States period (453-221 B.C.), so-called because of the long struggle among seven rival dynasties for supreme power.
In 102 B.C., there were 180,000 peasant soldiers in the "command posts".
3. Watch towers
There are more than 10,000 watchtowers and beacon towers on the Great Wall. They were used to house troops, store weapons and send signals in case enemies were seen approaching. Smoke signals were used in the day and fires were lit at night to communicate with other military outposts along the wall.
4. Local mill wheel
Many farms still exist close to the Great Wall where traditional farming skills dating back hundreds of years are still used to this day.
5. The wall in winter
The climate in Beijing is of the continental type, with cold and dry winters, due to the Siberian air masses that move southward across the Mongolian Plateau. The summers are hot owing to warm and humid monsoon winds from the southeast bringing Beijing most of its annual precipitation. January is the coldest month and July is the warmest. Winter usually begins towards the end of October. The summer months, June to August, are wet and hot with about 40% of the annual precipitation.

Walking poles are useful but should have rubber tip protectors for use on The Great Wall or Inca Trail.
Walking poles = trip hazards!

10. Peking Duck
Peking Duck, or Peking Roast Duck is a famous duck dish that has been prepared since the imperial era, and is now considered one of China's national foods.The dish is prized for the thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and little meat, sliced in front of the diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for the dish are slaughtered after 65 days and seasoned before being roasted in a closed or hung oven. The meat is eaten with pancakes, spring onions, and hoisin or sweet bean sauce.

12. The Forbidden City
Dating from 1406 the Forbidden City drew an inpenetrable line between the imperial household and the general population for over 500 years.
There are 9,999.5 rooms in 800 buildings.

The Temple of Heaven is well worth a visit for its exceptional and unique Ming dynasty buildings.

15. Shopping area
The pedestrianised, southern end of Wangfujing is the place to shop for name-brand goods.
The night market of Donghua Yeshi is well worth a visit.
Taxies are plentiful.
