Grace’s Vision: Grace Sharing Grace Unconditionally

Grace’s Mission: Grace Strives to be a Church that Gathers,

Responds, Accepts, Cares, and Engages.

From the Pastor….

Women of Faith

We are in the middle of our worship series on Women of Faith. Women have been faith

leaders from the beginning, but they often weren’t recognized or allowed to serve in

more official capacities.

So here’s a little history test of women’s leadership in our Methodist tradition.

The answer sheet will be available in the church office – just ask!

A few important things about our history that could help:

1784: Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) is established

1800: Church of the United Brethren in Christ (UB) is formed

1807: Evangelical Association (EA) is organized

1830: Methodist Protestant Church (MPC) is organized by a group from MEC

1844: Methodist Episcopal Church, South (MECS) separates from MEC over issues of

slavery and bishops.

1922: Evangelical Church (EC) is formed by uniting EA and United Evangelical Church

1939: Methodist Church (MC) is formed by uniting MEC, MPC and MECS

1946: Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB) created by merging EC and UB

1968: United Methodist Church is formed by uniting EUB and MC

The only prize you can receive is a better understanding of our history. We have a lot to

celebrate.

And, by the way, our United Methodist Church just turned 50 years old on April 23!!!

Grace and peace,

Rev. Laura

Church Council Notes

Dr. Michelle Aldrich

The Church Council held its second quarter meeting on April 11 in the Upper Room. The

Council is working on three goals this year. The goals set in January are financial stability,

community visibility, and working with other United Methodist Churches in our circuit to

carry out District Supt. Jeff’s vision of barn building.

The finance committee reported on steps they are taking to insure

financial stability, which includes establishing a financial policy for the

church. Rev. Laura and I are working on creating a plan for Grace that

uses other churches of a similar size plan as a template.

An ad hoc committee of Pam, Rev. Laura, and myself are working on

community visibility and “branding” for our church with our recently confirmed vision and

mission statements. We are looking into t-shirts that would identify us as a group for

community service projects and events like Faith Day at the Rockies.

Our last goal is working with other United Methodist Churches on events that they would be

unable to carry out on their own. This goal is really on hold until we have projects from the

other churches in our circuit to consider.

The Church Council meets again on June 20 from 6-8 p.m. in the Upper Room. These

meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend and meeting summaries for every

church committee are available in the church office if you are wondering what is happening

with a particular committee. You are always more than welcome to contact Rev. Laura, a

committee chairperson, or myself for additional information.

United Methodist Women

Pam Pallak

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose

purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ;

to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of missions through

participation in the global ministries of the church.

There will be a Mother’s Day Tea, sponsored by UMW on

Saturday, May 5, at 10:00 am in Grace Hall. Bring a family

heirloom you treasure to share (something of your mother’s or

an influential woman in your life). There will be an opportunity to

donate to UMW mission projects and to a Self-Denial Offering.

Please sign up in the narthex. ALL ARE WELCOME.!!

Christine Circle continues to study John Wesley through the book REVIVAL by Adam

Hamilton. We are not only learning about John Wesley but also things about ourselves.

The Christine Circle will be hosting a reception for CLIMB WYOMING, June 26th at the

Community House in Lions Park. If you would like to help serve, call Gale Graves at

631-1578.

The Wyoming + 1 district meeting will be June 1st at First UMC. And the Day Apart

retreat will follow on June 2nd. Mary Lou Marcum has info for registration.

Martha Circle: The next meeting will be Saturday, June 16, from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon

in Grace Hall. Plans are to make gifts for Father’s Day. After lunch, which will be provided,

the Craft and Scrap Group will meet. It is a great group and we have lots of laughs and

fellowship. So bring whatever you are working on and join in the fun. Contact Linda Bogart

at 214-3045 for more information.

All the women of Grace are invited to

participate in the BAKE SALE at the

garage sale. We will need the

items on Thursday, before the sale,

please. Proceeds will go to our

mission work.

Beginning April 30th, Rev. Laura will lead the Spiritual Growth study, "Living as a Covenant

Community" at 9:30 am in the upper room. The study will run through May 21st. Books will cost

$10.00. This study is open to everyone. A sign-up sheet is posted in the narthex.

Day for Girls If you have 100% new or used white fabric you no longer have a use for, the

Wheatland UMC would gladly take them off your hands. They are taking part in making sanitary

pads to be sent to young girls in Africa who don’t have access to such refinements. While they will

accept other fabrics which can be used for carrying bags, they are very definite about requiring

100% cotton white fabric. They will accept gently used towels and sheets as long as they are white

and all cotton. They can be torn and lightly stained but clean. This collection runs from the end of

March to the end of May. Any questions, please contact Mary Lou Marcum.

COLLECTING LAYETTE ITEMS FOR AMEND

UMW will be collecting items for the baby layettes on the Pine Ridge Reservation throughout the

spring and summer for the fall delivery. Items needed are:

clothing and diapers size newborn

baby wash, shampoo, lotion, and wipes

receiving and crib blankets

sock, hats, bibs, small toys, or new stuffed toys

IIf you have any questions regarding something you would like to give, call Pammy at 637-5193.

Youth Group Activities

Brian Martin

The youth group at Grace UMC continues to meet Sunday mornings at 9:00 am and we have

folded in the youth who are 5th graders for this academic year. We have been having interesting,

engaging conversations, as well as a lot of fun!

We also are continuing to participate in work and fun activities with the youth groups at Frontier

and First UMC. Among our upcoming activities are:

Saturday, May 12, 10:00 am-12:00 noon - Cleanup of a section of Greenway as part of the

first-ever Day of Service (part of the Day of Giving). It looks like we will be cleaning up a

section off of Nationway behind the Goodwill and the elementary school. (Details are being set

up by First UMC youth leader Kathy Lackey).

In addition, the youth have been collecting reusable water bottles, trial size sunscreen and socks

for homeless residents, to be donated at the Youth Day of Giving on Thursday, May 10. Many

thanks to everyone who have donated to this effort!

As always, if you have any questions about the youth group, please see Brian Martin or Rev.

Laura.

Memory Garden

Glenda Haley

The Memory Garden has sprung to life, and the news is good. Real good! Almost all of the

perennials that people donated last summer have come back at least twice fold. I am sure that we

will have fresh flowers on the altar on many an occasion.

As with all gardens, they tend to be a work

in progress. The garden needs some

weeding, feel free to pull up one or two!

The crosses need to be reset, I’ll get to

this. If you are interested in being part of

the garden team this year, please let

Glenda know so she can keep you in the

loop. Even if all you can do is come and

sit, enjoy and be good company, you are

wanted and welcome.

Closer to the end of May you can donate

some annuals/perennials which can be

placed in the garden in memory of someone you love. Please stop by the garden and enjoy the

bounty that heals the soul, brings peace to the mind, and hope to the world.

May’s Missions

"Bloom where you are planted."(1 Corinthians 7:20-24 ) Growing up in the 60-70’s I had this

saying stitched on my bell bottoms, on a day glow poster in my room and on a sticker on my

locker. So what does this have to do with Mission in May, you might ask?

Did you ever think of yourselves as dirt for something to grow in, or good old fertilizers helping

a weak organism to grow or a pot ready to be a home? Well I’m guessing not, but yet that is just

the role you play at Grace, when you indeed give Grace unconditionally.

Thank you so much for the last month’s giving. You put over $100 in coins to be given to

Cheyenne Day of Giving, collected over 35 reusable water bottles for the youth to give for Youth

Day of Giving. Food and other items were given to Needs every week during April from the food

collection Basket. A huge thank you to Rick Fisher who deliver these items to Needs,Inc. each

and every week.

You also gave paper products, games, coloring books, blankets, pillows and more to Family

Promise. And I’m writing this in the middle of the month. Each and everyone of these actions

give much needed support to someone, somewhere, at sometime. So you indeed, are helping

someone to Bloom where they have been planted. Certainly you are blooming where you are

planted. Grace UMC is a great place to grow.

God Bless and Happy Spring!
