THREE years ago, in September, tertiarystudents and Sixth Formers across thecountry were introduced to R.AGE, The

Star ’s youth pullout.R.AGE is not just a publication. Its tagline

“R.AGE is a state of mind. YOURS.” articulatesThe Star’s quest to engage young people in avariety of ways – from its online presence atwww.rage.com.my to the numerous groundactivities that have become a trademark ofR.AGE.

We started with the aim to provide a plat-form for youths from 18 to 23 – those transi-tional years from adolescence to adulthood –to share their thoughts and trends, and tocapture the vibrancy and energy of thatgeneration.

R.AGE became college students’ faithfulcompanion; the 12-page pullout was distrib- uted for free from Monday to Friday at select-ed colleges, universities and schools inPeninsular Malaysia. The publication featureda myriad of elements that would interestyoung people – from heart to hair, sex to soul, fashion to food, and music to manic behav-iours.

R.AGE was always intended to be a publica-tion by young people for young people. Oneof the highlight’s of R.AGE is the numerouscolumns written and produced by youthsthemselves. Among them are @ Campus, where four pages a week were “given” to abunch of students from a particular educa-tional institution to write about topics of theirchoice; Stepping Out , a column dedicated tostudents studying abroad to share their ideas;and Rant & R.AGE , for youths to vent on issuesclose to their heart.

All that reading and writing was notenough for free-spirited energetic youngsters,so R.AGE also organised various races to gettheir adrenaline pumping.

Many youths may remember Spirit of KL,Spirit of Malacca and Spirit of Penang back in2006, which saw readers gathering by thehundreds in search of what makes the respec-tive cities tick.

A year later, students put their brains (andbrawn) to good use at Genting Highlands inthe money management race that was TheR.AGE My2Sen Worth. And this year, morethan 200 youths gathered in Ipoh and later, inthe quaint town of Papan, Perak, in the histo-ry-themed adventure The R.AGE Trailblazer.

Above all this, R.AGE prides itself forproviding the space and opportunity to youngpeople to express their thoughts and ideas.

R.AGE also dedicates time and effort to helpyoung people develop their skills through ourworkshop series which include workshops onmultimedia, photography, personal groomingand self-defence, among others.

Now, as we welcome a new year, R.AGE toois ready to enter a new phase.

From next Monday, R.AGE will be availableto all youths – teenagers, tertiary studentsand young adults – in StarTwo from Mondayto Friday.

As such, this is the last issue of Youth2.Besides print, R.AGE will still be available

online (look out for a brand new look for thewebsite real soon!) and on the road via thenumerous events the R.AGE team has plannedfor the year (stay tuned).

Please join R.AGE on this journey. See youon Monday!
