The Department ofTransport and Main Roads is working closely with all stakeholders to deliver integrated road network planning to benefit all road users and support public transport and infrastructure projec ts.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has been working closely with the Department of Infrastructure and Planning, Queensland Health, Go ld Coast City Council and Griffith Unive rsity to ensure road network upgrades are delivered in time to support growth for this spec iali sed hosp ital and knowledge precinct .

The priority for road upgrades to support the development of the new Gold Coast University Hospita l are:

» upgrade Olsen Avenue to six lanes » bu ild a new signalised intersection at Olsen Avenue

and Hospital Bou levard » upgrade the ex ist ing in tersection at Olsen Avenue, Pa rklands Drive

and Wi nte rgreen Drive.

The department is work ing closely with all stakeho lders to ensure that the road upgrades f it with and complement the rap id trans it project.

Construct ion of the Gold Coast Un iversity Hospital wi ll begin in mid-2010 and the new intersecti on at Hospita l Boulevard will be open for hospita l const ruct ion t raffic by the end of 2010.

In 2006, the Queensland Government

announced its commitment to build

the new Gold Coast University

Hospital (GCUH). Planning for the

hospital has been completed and

earthworks have now started on this

State Government Priority

Infrastructure Project which is

located adjacent to Griffith University

on the corner of Olsen Avenue and

Parklands Drive. The hospital is

expected to open in late 2012.

• Efficient traff ic flow with dual turning lanes into the hospital precinct

• Improved safety for all road users with dedicated on-road cycle lanes and signalised pedestrian crossings

• Preserving options fo r the integration of public transport planning including the Gold Coast Rap id Transit Project (GCRT)

• Long-term future planning concepts catering for precinct and traff ic growth

Following detailed analysis of projected traffic numbers, emergency vehicle movements and precinct growth, the main features of the design are:
