Media Kit 2010
For 20 years, Global Works has provided unique community service, cultural
exchange, adventure travel and language learning programs for teens and young
adults. These international trips are designed to be a catalyst for students to make
a difference in their lives and their world. Much more than a vacation, groups work,
celebrate and play with communities around the globe. And, two decades of
experience has helped Global Works establish grassroots connections in all
corners of the world.
Community Service
Global Works is a service
company first and a travel
company second. And, with the
philosophy that it is more
important to work with a village
rather than for a village, the
hand selected projects make
an authentic impact. Global
Works partners with local
communities to complete
meaningful, well-organized and
thoughtful service work.

Adventure Travel
A Global Works summer
service adventure is the
experience of a lifetime.
Imagine standing among the
ancient ruins of Machu Picchu,
rafting the Rio Sarapiqui or
scuba diving in the Caribbean.
The international trips with
Global Works allow teens to
combine work and play on a
safe summer vacation that will
open their eyes to world-wide
adventure and social change.
• Surfing lessons on world class
Pacific waves
•Trekking in cloud forests and along
volcanic mountain trails
• Rafting some of the world’s best
whitewater
• Snorkeling and scuba diving
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef
• Visiting the Great Wall of China or

Cultural Exchange
Global Works’ teens live, work
and play alongside locals. They
experience complete immersion
in the local cultures. Global
Works helps teens to expand
their experience and vision of the
world as they share in community
activities and gain a deeper
understanding of customs, arts
and traditions. These trips offer
meaningful cultural exchange
that will develop qualities that
can be applied in college and
beyond.
Language Immersion
Most of Global Works’ programs have the option of
language immersion. These trips are offered to those
who wish to develop their confidence and skills in
speaking a second language. For students with a
minimum of two years of language classes, these
programs provide authentic interaction through
homestays, language immersion curriculum and
interactive cultural experiences.

A Safe and Healthy Travel
Experience
Global Works has a well deserved
reputation as one of the most
professional and well organized of the
service travel operations. And, safety is
their number one priority. All trips are well
planned and organized; guided in low risk
areas of the world; have mature and
experienced staff; and include
contingency plans to handle any sort of
situation. Each staff leader is required to
attend the annual staff training and, with
an average of 75 percent returning staff,
every student is in good hands.
2009 By the Numbers:
• 17 countries
• 852 participants
• 77 staff
• 1,341 hours of
community and
environmental service
• 55 communities served
• 11 different types of
adventures
Homestay Experience
Many participants choose to spend part of
their adventure with a host family. This is
an unforgettable language learning
opportunity and an amazing cultural
experience. All homestay families are
carefully selected based on a standardized
process of interviews, visits by country
directors, contractual agreements and
careful consideration for students’ safety
and privacy. Participants are matched with
homestay families based on things like
allergies, diet, age, language proficiency
and personal preferences.
“Global Works lived up to its
word. I have been on other
Spanish immersion programs
but never did I think I could
improve so much on my
Spanish in such a short period
of time. Everything we did was
in Spanish. The homestay part
of the program was my
favorite. I have kept in touch
with my family and I can even
say that I miss them a lot.” –

Custom Group Travel
Global Works provides authentic travel experiences for school
groups, families, civic groups and any other motivated group of
travelers looking to get the most out of their international travel
experience. Groups need at least 14 participants, with the
exception of families and adult groups. Two chaperones are
free for groups of 14 and a Global Works leader will be there
throughout the entire trip. Groups can expect to do about 15-
30 hours of community service, depending on the length of the
trip and the itinerary.
