EPI’s mentored learning is different. We deliver training andmentoring designed to meet your specific project and teamneeds. Training can be provided using your projects’ data – tosimultaneously develop your team whilst working up yourasset. Our experts provide tailored training covering the fullE&P cycle.

It is generally acknowledged that 60-80% of learning takesplace when you apply what you have learnt. Traditionaltraining courses rapidly lose their effectiveness the long thetime between actual training and using it on the job.

Our experts utilise their significant experience to providementored learning which covers the fundamentals across thefull E&P cycle. Incorporating real-world problems that yourteam are working on ensures that the learning is applied whilstworking up your assets, for maximum knowledge retention bythe participants. All training is given in completeconfidentiality.

Our mentored learning is fully bespoke, tailored to yourrequirements, and can include any combination of the topicsoutlined below:

Exploration Expertise• Play fairway analysis and risking• Sequence stratigraphy & sedimentology• Structural geology, interpretation, balancing• Exploration fieldwork• Seismic interpretation and prospect identification• Prospect evaluations, volumetrics & risking• Basin/charge modelling• Petroleum geochemistry• Core analysis, logging & petrography• Best practise database management

All courses can be undertakeneither at your offices or, if youprefer, at one of our trainingfacilities in the UK. Courseduration and content can be fullytailored to fit with your teamsexperience, availability andrequirements.

How does EPI mentored learning work?EPI mentors deliver knowledge and practical skills, expertly built around your explorationand production projects and personalised to the appropriate level for the participantsinvolved, while using the software of your choice.

We will design a programme which fits the requirements and critically uses your datasets asthe basis of the practical exercises. In this way, your staff are mentored in how to directlyapply their newly acquired skills and knowledge to data from live work programmes, ratherthan idealised case studies. We have complete flexibility on where the training is delivered, reducing travel expenses and the disruptive impact training courses can have on ongoingwork programmes.

Field-based courses can be provided using surface outcrops near or in your exploration andproduction licenses, evaluating the actual rocks present in the subsurface. We can alsosuggest the most appropriate field analogue locations if these are more practical and costeffective to visit.

Who delivers EPI Training? Our courses are tailor-made to your needs and we utilise our extensive global network ofassociates to ensure that the best people deliver your course. EPI’s training programmes arecoordinated, and often delivered by our senior team, which includes:

Dr Matthew WatkinsonMatthew is a sequence stratigrapher and sedimentologist withexperience in every kind of sedimentary basin setting anddepositional systems from basin floor turbidites to lacustrinecarbonates. Matthew is highly experienced in the analysis andintegration of seismic, well-log, core and field data for bothconventional and unconventional resources. Matthew is AssociateProfessor in Petroleum Geology at Plymouth University, UK, andhas 30 years’ experience in teaching petroleum geology andgeophysics, as well as supervising PhD students.

Dr Mark EnfieldMark is an exploration geoscientist and oil industry innovator withover 25 years’ experience and a proven track record workingthroughout the E&P cycle. Mark’s experience of hydrocarbonexploration extends across highly diverse geological settingsglobally, and he is noted as a specialist in structural analysis, NewVentures, Play Fairway Analysis and Charge Modelling. Mark holdsa PhD in structural geology from Imperial and is proud to be aPESGB Young Professionals mentor.
