GENERAL POOL MAINTENANCE

VACUUM
1. Remove weir from the skimmer throat
2. Set inlet valve to full skim position
3. Set filter dial valve to filter position
4. Attach the vacuum pole to vacuum handle
5. Put vacuum head with pole and hose attached to it into pool
6. Fill vacuum hose with water by placing the end over the return fitting until all air is discharged from vacuum hose
7. Attach vacuum adapter plate to one end of vacuum hose
8. When hose is full of water, to prevent the water from draining, cover end of the hose with vacuum adapter with your hand, then take hose to skimmer and quickly insert it over the top of basket inside skimmer
9. Proceed to vacuuming with slow, deliberate movements
10. When you are finished vacuuming, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PULL VACUUM PLATE ADAPTER OFF the top of skimmer basket until you have turned filter off or you will damage basket
BACKWASH
Backwashing should be done when pressure in filter raises 5 psi higher than normal (normal operating pressure is the pressure the gage shows immediately after backwashing)
1. Turn off pump
2. Set filter to the backwash setting by pushing and turning handle on top of filter
3. Place discharge/backwash hose to a desired area ensuring that it is rolled out flat
4. Turn on pump
5. Continue to run pump until water in the site glass goes clear. If your filter does not have a site glass, check water coming out of the discharge hose. A normal backwash should take about 1-2 minutes depending on varying factors
6. After backwash is complete, turn off pump
7. Change filter setting to “rinse”
8. Turn on pump and let it run for 15-20 seconds
9. Turn off pump and change filter back to filter setting
DO watch pool care instruction video and read the pools owners manual
DO shop for pool supplies and chemicals at a Pool store; other vendors may sell varying quality products with reduced concentrations and fillers
DO get water tested at Namco Pool at least once a month
DON’T add water to your chemicals! Always add chemicals to water for mixing
NEVER combine stabilized and unstabilized chlorines in the same container
NEVER combine chlorine and any acid (ph minus/muriatic acid) in the same container
DON’T turn off pump for at least 20 minutes after a heater has been heating
DON’T change the positions on sand filter while pump is running
DON’T open the lid to pump or open any chemical feeders while pump is running
DON’T swim for at least 12 hours after super chlorinating pool
DON’T attempt to pull vacuum plate off skimmer basket while pump is running
DON’T extend your pool vacuum hose to its full length
GENERAL TIPS
REBORN EST. 2018
NamcoPool.com
WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
Check pressure on filter pressure gauge and backwash filter as needed
Check water level in pool. It should be 3/4 of the way up skimmer
Check lint pot strainer basket (at the front of pump) and clean as needed
Check skimmer basket for debris
Check that equipment is functioning properly
Add a daily dose of granular sanitizer if you do not have an automated chemical feeder.
WEEKLY CHEMICAL MAINTENANCE
Test PH levels and adjust to ideal range to 7.2 – 7.8
Test free chlorine levels and adjust to 1.0-3.0 ppm with your chemical feeder or 0.6 ppm if you are using a mineral purifier (Nature II)
Test alkalinity levels to ensure they are between 80-120 ppm
CHEMICAL OVERVIEW
Product Time Application
Oxidizer 1-2 weeks Broadcast over pool surface
Unstabilized Granular Chlorine As Needed Broadcast over surface (some types require pre-mixing)
Unsterilized Liquid Chlorine As Needed Pour around perimeter of the pool water
Chlorine/Bromine Tablets As Needed Fill sanitizer as per manufacturer’s instructions
Salt As Needed Pour into deep end of pool
40% Algaecide Monthly/As Needed Pour around perimeter of the pool water
Stain and Scale Monthly/As Needed Pour around perimeter of the pool water
Pool Perfect Weekly Pour directly into skimmer
ROUTINE POOL MAINTENANCE
ALGAE MAINTENANCEREBORN EST. 2018
NamcoPool.com
1. Remove automatic pool cleaner from water
2. Brush walls and the bottom of pool (this is important as you need to remove stuck-on algae and increase surface area of algae you are trying to kill)
3. Adjust pH to 7.2. Remember, algae thrives in high pH environment. Also, subsequent chlorination will increase pH level throughout this process.
4. In the evening, superchlorinate the pool with:
HTH Extra: Broadcast 1 oz per 576 gallons over a large area of the pool surface, mainly the deep end
Or, Unstabilized Liquid Chlorine: Use 1 gallon of liquid chlorine per 5,000 gallons of pool water. For instance a 16 x 32 rectangle has 19,020 gallons. This requires 19,020 gallons/5,000 gallons = 3.8 gallons of liquid chlorine.
1. The change in color means you have eliminated algae and can now clean it out of pool. If water is still green, wait another 24 hours and redo steps for Days 1 and 2.
2. Add 1 fl oz of Pool Clarifier per 1,563 gallons of pool water. Let pool circulate for 12 hours (this clumps the algae together into vacuumable pieces). Shut pump off and let cloudiness settle. This can take a few days for very cloudy pools.
1. If water is no longer green, proceed to (2) of Day 2. If water is still green, wait another 24 hours and redo steps for Day 1.
2. In the morning add Oxidizer. Add: 1 lb per 8,987 gal of pool water.
3. In the evening add concentrated algaecide (40% Algaecide). Add: 1 fl oz per 781 gallon of pool water.
1. All algae should be dead and sitting at the bottom of pool. This dead algae is too fine to be vacuumed through the sand filter. Owners of a sand filter MUST vacuum on “waste” setting. Cartridge filter owners can vacuum up dead algae but must clean filters after doing so.
2. In the evening, chlorinate pool with: HTH Extra: Broadcast 1 oz per 1,152 gallons over deep end of pool.

CLEANING FILTERSREBORN EST. 2018

PRECAUTIONS
Do not let pump run dry.
Do not backwash solution into pool, over grass or desirable plants.
PREPARATION
1. Backwash filter normally
2. Leave handle in backwash position
3. Shut off pump
4. Remove pump hair and lint pot cover
5. Remove filter drain plug
6. Allow water to drain from filter
7. Replace filter drain plug securely
APPLICATION OF CLEANER
1. Fill plastic pail with warm tap water
2. Add 1 lb of filter cleaner into 5 gallons of lukewarm water while stirring with a wooden stick (the solution will dissolve and turn red)
For Cartridge Filters:
1. Remove cartridges and elements and soak overnight in plastic pail
2. After soaking, rinse thoroughly and replace them in filter
For Sand Filters or if elements cannot be removed:
1. Add Filter Cleaner solution directly into filter tank
2. Use sufficient solution to cover the sand or elements
3. Let stand overnight
4. Drain, then backwash to thoroughly rinse sand and elements
RESUME NORMAL OPERATION
1. Prime pump and backwash for 6 minutes or until water coming out of backwash line is clear. Note: Do not allow solution to get into pool
2. Shut off power to pump, put handle in filter position and then restart pump
Filter cleaner is effective in removing scale, rust, cosmetics, oils, etc., which commonly reduce performance of sand, DE and cartridge filters. The dry, granular form makes
it easy to use with greater handling safety.
Clean your filter every season for optimal lifetime value.
