PRESIDENTIAL PONDERINGS

Another busy year for Garland County EHC is coming to an end. I thank everyone for the support you have given to all our county activities. We have some changes for next year, but I am sure we will have another good year with the new officers and others leading the way.

Thanks for allowing me to be your county president.

-Wilma Blair, President

THANK YOU WILMA FOR A GREAT YEAR!!!

COOKS ‘R’ US

FIBER THERAPY

Country Store

It’s time to start working on your handmade items to sell in the Country Store at the Arts & Crafts Fair! All members (and spouses) can bring items to sell and there is no limit of items you have.

Selling in the Country Store is a good way to get to know EHC members from other clubs and we always have a good time. You might even make enough money to buy some more craft supplies!

The deadline for registration is September 3rd. For more information contact Katy Weaver at 501-767-2620 or [email protected].

Officers Training is on Friday, June 23rd. It will be at 5:30 p.m. at the EHC Building. Please make note of the time change from what is in the yearbook. We look forward to seeing you there!

COOKS ‘R’ US is changing its focus starting in July. We will still be meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m., at the EHC Building at the Garland County fairgrounds. We will focus on baked goods and desserts with a healthier twist. We are happy to have visitors and new members. For info please call Sharon Parrett at 617-3237 or just come and out and join us.

Fiber Therapy Club recently participated in the table runner contest at the Spring Council Meeting. The club voted from among member entries to decide which table runner would be entered in the county-wide contest. Jennifer Orr’s table runner was selected.

Fiber Therapy Club members are so proud that Jennifer also won the contest for the county. Way to go Jennifer!

Lakeside's Papercrete Project

At our May meeting, Lakeside members made Papercrete pots, which are similar to Hyperufa pots. Millie Wilson had prepared stacks of newspaper by shredding them and then soaking the strips in a large bucket for about 48 hours. When we finished lunch we got to work. We drained the water from the newspaper and Millie stirred it to a pulp with a paint mixer attached to an electric drill. Then she stirred in Portland cement and vermiculite, along with a little more water. Each of us chose a plastic bowl for a mold, sprayed it with vegetable oil, p ut on our gloves, and set to work applying the "goop" to the inside of the mold. We had to take the filled molds home with us for the pot to dry so we haven't seen what each other’s pots look like, but here is one that is finished.

workshop teacher.

Loyal Ladies practiced making the Heritage apron from a man's shirt at their February and March meetings in preparation for the Fun Friday class we taught in April. We've also had our annual plant exchange, and our annual yard sale (where, incidentally, w e raised more than we ever have), proceeds go toward funding our nursing scholarships at NPCC. We also added two new members this past quarter, Sherry Heimbach and Jackie Marsching. Eleven of our members attended the Spring Council meeting.

LOYAL LADIES
