European Space Solution Workshop on Galileo Search & Rescue
Presented by Philippe LARHANTEC/Thales Alenia Space
Objectives
• Funded under H2020 Call Galileo-2014-1• Duration: 24months (Feb. 2015 – Feb. 2017)• Objectives:
promoting an African EGNOS and Galileo Early services in a wide range of business and scientific applications
supporting the awareness and capacity building in Africa to boost the penetration of the EGNSS applications and services
Fostering EC Africa cooperation in GNSS
Demonstrations
Localization of airport surface vehicles to prevent collisions and to improve rolling materials control
Oil Exploitation use of precise positioning, robust to scintillation, for positioning systems in drilling ships.
Aircraft Operation monitoring EGNOS benefits with a flight campaign
Natural Resources by analyzing with accurate vertical position the evolution of water resources
Multi-modal Galileo SAR trial showing the use of new generation Search-And-Rescue beacons for transport
Maritime Galileo SAR trial showing the Galileo SAR in Maritime domain
• The means: 6 Field Trials Demonstrating EGNOS & Galileo Applications benefits in diverse sectors.
Galileo SAR Multi-Modal
Cameroonian authorities are looking for solutions enabling to reinforce the security of personal, goods and assets caused by armed groups
Objectives• Demonstrate how Galileo can combine both tracking
function and distress function• Demonstrate how SAR can be used for personal
protection extending emergency calls even when terrestrial communication network is not available
• Demonstrate if Galileo assess the needs from regional telecom operators
BenefitsObtain an efficient tracking service with safety functions, combining emergency services (E112) with Galileo SAR Location Cameroon

Maritime Search & Rescue
• It is very important to get a rapid and accurate location of the distressed ship or plane to focus the research and save lives
• AGEOS is interested to organise a demonstration of “ship in distress” rescue operation using the GALILEO SAR capability to experience the added value in terms of performances and efficiency for the rescue.
Objectives• To demonstrate added value of GALILEO SAR for maritime
applications• Demonstrate that despite the ionosphere issue, Second Generation Beacon (SGB) signal can meet the objective of Cospas-Sarsat Joint Committee of 100m accuracy.

Maritime Search & Rescue
2 Phases :1.Engineering
Tuning of Ionospheric Correction algorithms (typical error is 200 meters )
2.Demonstrations1. Real-Time SGB Activation on-board of ship2. Computation of localization with iono. correction
Maritime Search & Rescue
Engineering : Ionospheric correction
• Evaluation of the delay caused by Ionosphere• Evaluation of effectivness of several models that compensate the induced delay• Evaluation of scintillation impact on the measurement quality & detection probability• Implementation of correction in MEOLUT Localization SW
