TheUnitedNationsresolutionA/RES/64/255setsthegoalfortheDecadetostabilizeandthenreducetheforecastlevelofroadtrafficfatalitiesaroundtheworldbyincreasingactivitiesconducted at the national, regional and global levels. TheresolutioncallsonallMemberStatestosetroadsafetytargetstobeachievedduringtheDecade.

Whilegovernmentsareexpectedtoleadtheimplementationof activities, the resolution specifically calls for a multi‐sectoralapproachthatincludesacademia,theprivatesector,civil society, the media, victims and their families. In ourconditionspotentialofDecadeforActionforRoadSafetyisnotused.Governmenthasn’tdefinedconcreteaimsinroadsafetywhichshouldbeachieveduntiltheendof2020,orpromotedmulti sectoral approach for solving road safety problems.Because of that, local communities, which have dedicatedfinancialsourcesforimprovingroadsafety,shouldnotwaitforthe government action. Every local community has enoughreasonstosetitsownaimswhichshouldbeachieveduntiltheendof2020,byusingverifiedeffectivemeasurestodevelopappropriateroadsafetyprogramswithwhichthoseaimswillbeachieved.

At8thInternationalConferenceheldinApril2012,over350domesticandforeignexpertsfromtheroadsafetyfieldhadparticipated,andthisyearweareexpectingevenmoreparticipants.That’swhythe9.InternationalConferencerepresentsanopportunitytohelpeachotherinplanningandrealizationofroadsafetyprograms,andbythatto start avalanche of multi sectoral activities in localcommunitiesoftheregion.

WeinviteyoutoactivelyparticipateattheConferencebysharingvaluableexperiencesgainedthroughworkinginroadsafetyinyourlocalcommunities.

At the 9th International Conference the latest works ofeminent experts from Europewill be presented, especiallyfromtheregion,aswellaspracticalexperiencesinmeetingthechallenges of risk in traffic. The results of traditionalresearches of traffic risk will be shown and also riskdistribution across local communities in Serbia, as well assimilarstudiesfromotherstates.

English and languages of the former Yugoslav republicsare official languages of the Conferece.

In traffic accidents in Serbia every 25 daysa bus full of people is killed and at every 5 days sufers from serious injuries.

Every day two people are killed and even 10 people get seriously injured. Every day 10 more hospital beds are taken by traffic accident victims.

Worldwide, every 3 hours a jumbo jet full of people is killed. Traffic accidents are the most important public problem in Serbia and globally.
